Fuel Line Grommet
The hole where the fuel line passes thru the firewall is a well known trouble spot in the VW Bus.  When our buses left the factory there was a rubber grommet installed in this hole to protect the fuel line.  Over time, oxygen and heat destroy this grommet and we are left with a sharp steel edge that wears thru the fuel line.  This design flaw has been blamed for many fires in otherwise sound VW's over the years.

In one of his famous "Sermons", Bob Hoover suggests using lamp hardware to make a smooth tunnel for the fuel line to go thru.  As I was poking around the hardware store the other day, I noticed a bunch of nice brass fittings that are meant to be used for plumbing natural gas or propane in your home.  I quickly realized that I could combine a few of these parts to make a heavy duty version of the lamp hardware fuel line tunnel.
I decided to use a couple of big rubber washers to make everything nice and quiet.  The results turned out pretty good.  For about five bucks out of pocket, I can feel a little bit safer now when I am crusing down the road.  It's a pretty good investment if you ask me...
