A Name says a lot about who and what you are. It tells someone whether you are a quite person of if you are loud. It tells how you will react and even if you are to be taken seriously. For instance, if Buffy were wanting to start college to become a lawyer and Laura was the other woman applying for the one open slot, who do you think will get it? Probably Laura, and that’s without looking at her credentials. The good part about the name thing in Pagan religion is that you get to choose your own. You get to pick how people will respond to you. And it symbolizes that you are a new person. When you start to learn the craft you become a new person, things change, your life will not be the same. You become different. And your name is a way of showing that. Before I started my journey, I was Vanessa, Sometimes Gabriella, depending on when and where you knew me from. An elder who is a close friend of mine gave the name Silent Rain to me. Because of my personality, I am like rain, silent, sometimes cold and hard, sometimes warm and welcoming, but always cleansing and refreshing. Not always welcome but more often than not needed. And just like the Rain I carry two types of power, Harmful and Healing. When I first started to learn my powers I could not control them. They were like the fury of the rain, uncontrolled. Now my powers are controlled and silent. They can be loud but I choose to keep my works silent. I learn more when I am silent. I can affectivity judge situations and therefore the majik is more controlled and effective when I am silent and relaxed. This is why it is important to take time and care when choosing your name. I strongly suggest that you don’t choose a name until your period of a year and a day are up. This gives you time to learn yourself and to think about the things that represent you best. Before taking on a new name, talk to your Elders, or a friend, ask their opinion. The name you choose is yours’ for life. You shouldn’t change or get rid of it. Choose Well.
