It is amazing how much damage a car can have sitting in a junk yard for many years with the trunk open. The bottom of the rear quarters were rotted out as was the center of the trunk floor.
This picture is the destruction of the driver's side. I was systematic about the process. I left the driver's side completely in tact while I cut and assembled the passenger's side for measurement sake. After the passenger's side was back together with just skin welding left, I move to the driver's to complete the repairs of bad metal
This is the current state of the engine. The 71 diverter style system was used for the carburator to pump set-up. I just like the extra fuel filter in the system. This engine was fantastic inside. Over 100K miles on the engine and it had never been apart. Plastic shavings from the factory cam gear were still in the strainer for the oil pump. The motor was 4 thousands over so I used the factory pistons. The only thing to do now was deck the block to bring the compression up a bit. The heads were pocket ported by a good friend Kevin Saylors and all new valves were installed. What will it be like when I fire this motor off??? Only time will tell. |
