#6: Omsk
Omsk had a tough year. With a GM who poorly managed this team from a top 5 team to missing the
playoffs, Omsk's only salvation was that they were in the lottery. But, with a new GM at the helm
and new hope. This pick should go to good use.
#5: Philidelphia
A tough year just keeps on getting worse for Philly fans. After scoring the 2nd worse record in
the league, the fall 3 spots in the draft to #5. Timing couldnt have been worse as the expansion
year puts 2 extra teams in the draft which effected the outcome heavily.
#4: St. Petersburg
The new Russian team in the league it looking to make an impact right away with this draft pick.
Either via trade or selecting a top notch player they can bank their future on. GM Chan, who is
usually trade happy, might want to hold on to this pick.
#3: Ottawa
GM Petermen looked liek he jumped the Philly ship at the right time to take on the 2nd expansion
team in this draft as he will most certainly land a franchise player. The question is who and at
what position will be left?
#2: Toronto
Every lottery has a big winner and Toronto seems to be just that. After JUST missing the playoffs
due to the goals for tie breaker with Boston, they move up 2 spots to the 2nd overall pick. BUT
with a couple of franchaise forwards, a great young goaltender, and a D-man expected to go #1
will Toronto trade this pick to aquire that young blue liner they need?
#1: Milan
No Surprise here as last years #1 overall pick winner takes the lottery with the worst record in
the league once again. Who will join Peter Forsberg in that elite group of Milan 1st rounders? If
GM Au has anything to say about it (which he obviosuly does) it looks like its gunna be Russian
Blue Liner Sergi Gonchar.
