Sr. Systems Engineer Network Engineering January 2000 to March 2001
Promoted to Sr. Systems Engineer and Technical Team Lead. While being contracted to Nortel Networks I was responsible for training team members on system pre-check and software installation processes. Was responsible for overseeing other engineers installing software. Our team executed a complete software upgrade cycle for Sprint PCS wireless network (approx. 150 sites) with no aborts or rollbacks.
Job
Duties of pre-check process of SUN E450 included:
Telnet
through user account on HP servers to customer site. FTP script package
to customer site from HP file server. Check for critical file system
directories. Check for adequate partition space and inodes. Check
system files for customer specific configuration and correct if necessary
the following system files: /etc/vfstab, /etc/dfs/dfstab, /etc/automaster,
/etc/auto_direct, /etc/shells, /etc/hosts, /etc/hosts.equiv, /etc/hostname
files, and .rhost files. Verify port status and IP resolution to
/etc/hosts file using ifconfig commands. Test automount of
file systems configured in /etc/dfs/dfstab and /etc/auto_direct files.
Mount and load test cdrom and DAT tape drives. Verify and load test
FTP connectivity to server and all links to mate desktop. Perform
fsck check for file system sanity. Perform metastat check for sane
level 1 raid configuration.

that all SUN patches are applied. Remove all CDMA software patches.
Stop all database, performance data, and cron processes prior to database
backup. Perform database backup. Uninstall software and
verify removal with pkgrm and pkginfo commands. Install and verify
complete installation of all software packages with pkgadd and pkginfo
commands. Migrate database to new software load. Reboot the
system. Apply new CDMA software patches. Restart all cron jobs.
Verify system visibility and sanity of CDMA subsystems. Verify customer
NOCC visibility of newly upgraded system.
Perl
Scripting Projects included:
Designed
scripts to load test cdrom and DAT tape drives, verify and load test connectivity
to server and other desktops through FTP, verify and backup critical system
files, verify adequate disk space and inodes, execute and capture image
of fsck and metastat commands. Scripts identified and logged all
errors found. Scripts were modified for preliminary tests in a HP-UX
environment before scheduling test time on SUN E250. Was team lead
for lab testing perl script package before submitting to Sprint PCS.
Was team lead for training all members on new scripts and new CDMA software
deployment process.
