Dr. Farooqi writes on page 89-90 of her thesis:
" The present secretary of the governing body of the Jamia Nizamia is a retired judge of Andhra Pradesh Judicial Service. He is also a popular reformer of Hyderabad city. Particularly his services for "Tur-e-Baitul Mal" an agency started recently at Hyderabad for the economic betterment of Muslims, are remarkable. The secretary Mr. Abul Fazal Syed Mahmood is a combination of western and eastern education. Therefore his attachment to the religious institution gives much hope and encouragement to the Muslims of Hyderabad".
Following is a quote from pages 109-110 of the same book:
" We conclude the list of the executive committee of the Jamia Nizamia by recording the name of its able secretary Moulana Abul Fazal Syed Mahmood, a retired judge of Andhra Pradesh Judicial Service. Like Fazilat Jung, Abul Fazal has also brought renown and honour to the Jamia. The identical meaning of both names is not merely incidental. Hard work and devotion to the cause of Jamia are common characteristics which give the hope that Abul Fazal could also achieve the same honour as Fazilat Jung had done in the past. Now the Jamia is marching steadily to make its economy and administration sound and stable. For these achievements credit goes to the devoted and trusted secretary who has created a new spirit, zeal and self confidence among the Muslims of Hyderabad"
