HIV/AIDS MEDICINE WHEEL –NORTH

The North is also known as the ELDERS STAGE . We are called to come to the place where we are to make our contribution to our community. Having come to that place in life where we have skills based on our healing and experiences, we share with others.

If our commitment is anything less than total, we will feel unhappy and incomplete. If our goal is to be in a position to totally commit to our life's work, then it is in this direction we can fulfill some of these tasks. It is during this time that we come to understand the sacred legends and myths, it is where we are expected to share what we know with others and it is where the sacred dreams come into being.

In the North we receive the mandate to serve all of life. The totem spirit for the North is the BUFFALO, noted for their steadfastness, intelligence and strength.

Once we reach the Elders stage we have accepted that we are not immortal, but this does not mean we will die tomorrow. We do however, face death without fear. We know that we have worked through the issues that have held us back much of our lives. We have come to a good place deep inside us. We have forgiven and we are forgiven.

We actively participate in the planning and organization of our final plans. We are told that this journey will be by far, the best one yet and we prepare well by perhaps making our “Going Home” outfits, our moccasins.

We may write letters to loved ones that they can cherish long after we are gone.

It’s at this stage that we do our final preparations to face Creator, and we do so willingly.
