*Kapaha-Tantui residents protest TNI placement*
Residents of Kapaha-Tantui, yesterday morning (21/12) conducted a protest against
the placement of a TNI post in that area. They urged the Governor, as Head of the Civil
Emergency Board, to reassess the decision. According to the protestors, it was
illogical that there should be TNI forces within a Brimob-guarded compound. In a
separate location, Pattimura Regional Commander, Mustopo is optimistic that in
carrying out their duty in the field, the TNI and Police will not fight each other, as a
result of good coordination between the two institutions. Meanwhile, the Governor of
Maluku, Dr. Ir. M. Saleh Latuconsina, said that although the TNI commander and the
Chief of Police has instructed for the post to be placed in Kapaha-Tantui, comments
from the community would be taken into consideration.
