CLARK FREEPORT ZONE, Philippines -- Instead of borrowing from foreign creditors, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, said the government will finance the P6.3-billion Light Rail Transit-Metro Rail Transit (LRT-MRT) loop project.
The loop will connect LRT Line 1’s Monumento Avenue end-station in Caloocan City with the MRT end-station at North Avenue, Quezon City.
Funds for the project will be sourced from payday loans houston tx the revenues from the expanded value added tax, Arroyo said.
"We will use the proceeds from our VAT collections to close the LRT-MRT loop. Seeking foreign loans takes too much time and, anyway, we have the money to spend," she said in a tete-a-tete with reporters here Monday night.
Arroyo said VAT revenues are expected to hit P100 billion this year, with almost a fifth in windfall collections from skyrocketing fuel prices in the world market.
Presidential adviser on the Luzon Urban Beltway super-region Edgardo Pamintuan said using the VAT revenues would complete the project faster than educap student alternative loans waiting for private funding or loans.
The government has set May 2010 for the project's completion.
