Meet The Groomer! | ||||||||||||
Part 1: Beginnings......... I allways had a fascination with animals. As a child I spent hours watching ants in my driveway and catching frogs in the local pond. I also found injured birds,lost dogs and creepy spiders! My mother was very understanding of her only child. Im shure she thaught I was a strange one! As I got older I knew I wanted to work with animals, and I did not have the grades to become a vet. As a young adult on my own I could not have a pet dog..so I started owning cats. One of my boyfriends bought me a black Persian cat...and I then realised the importance of grooming! His coat was long and luxiuorious..and often matted...I sometimes tried giving him a bad hair cut! Then a few years later I met a kind animal lover who soon became my husband. He allowed mt to buy my first dog of my own...a Rottweiler named Cyrus...and I soon realised he needed training! My husband and I scraped our money together and decided why not me go to school and become a professional trainer? I would have a well trained dog and I could help others! So Off to Victoria I went for 3 months with my 18 month old Rotti in tow. I came home with a diploma and one amazing dog! Cyrus is still with us today. |

Part 2..a new path.... In July of 2001...I realised I did not want to train dog's for a living. But I did allways like playing and brushing dogs hair. I allways wanted a dog that I could primp up and play with. So this time I went to Animal Haven School of Dog Grooming in Surrey,B.C. Where I learned under Sandy Potter a master groomer and award winning stylist. Here I fell in love with Standard Poodles. They gave me confidence to brush out their coats,and let me practice sissoring for hours with unsteady nervous hands...while standing like statues! They never complained or laughed at our mistakes....and afterwards they gave us a hug and a kiss! Who could not love the breed? Or the job for that matter! After 3 months of long commutes I finally graduated in Oct,2001...and wen't on to work out of a small cottage in Harrison Hot Springs, B.C.On my own. - Nov, 2002...we bought our first house! And a good thing too! We had 3 Persian cats, and 3 dogs at the time...and I really wanted a poodle! so off to the Kootenays we went! We ended up on 16.6 acres just outside of Salmo B.C....... Today I run a sucessful buisness out of my home and I finally did get that Poodle I allways wanted! LIFE IS GOOD! I am one of the few people who can say..."I found my DREAM JOB!" |
