Letting your pet stay in a familiar environment greatly reduces the stress-factor while you are away. For some animals, staying at the vet while you are gone is a horrible experience. Some animals become shy and mean when they are in unfamiliar places. Others do not like the company of strange animals. If you have an older pet, it would be much easier on them to keep them at home even while you can't be there. Also, keeping your pet at home eliminates the risk of disease from other animals.
