Three smiling corpses are lying in the morgue and Detective Owens goes to the coroner to find out the cause of death.

The coroner points to the first man.

"This one is Quint," he says. "He died of shock after winning a $20 million lottery."

On to the second man. "This is Jon. You know Judi?"

Owens nodded.

"He died of a heart attack while having a little o_@l s@x with her."

Finally, down to the last corpse. "This is Amanpreet. He died after being struck by lightning."

Tsinoy says: I`d flash a wide grin too if I see a blinding camera light before me. Would you? Now, I hope that story would serve as a cheery introduction to an otherwise morbid reflection on death.

Why are many people afraid of death?
And what does Van Praagh tell his readers of his numerous contacts with these spirits? He says that after they leave their physical bodies, they reach the astral world, which he describes as an etheric counterpart of the earth. He describes this ethereal quality as an energy that vibrates in different frequencies, depending on the spiritual consciousness level reached by the - what else - spirit. I guess this is equivalent to what I was taught as a child as hell, purgatory and heaven. Let me explain.
Van Praagh tells us that the spirit - as an astral body - is made up of all the thoughts, emotions and desires in your mind just as when your physical body was still alive. Therefore, spirits emanating low frequency vibrations would be equivalent to those dwelling in the basement - or dark realm of the astral world - and whose mental attitude reflect hate, malice and the need to control others (Van Praagh`s words, not mine). He adds that the inhabitants can be murderers, rapists, thieves, cheaters, or anyone who has HARMED another human being. These souls are lost within these dark realms until they realize their wrongdoing.
At that point, they become ready to ascend into the higher plane with the help of spirit guides. If not, they reincarnate back to earth as another being to seek atonement and undergo purification. Van Praagh is quick to stress that no one is ever really lost because the God Force energy is within each soul. Now, isn`t that comforting?
For other spirits, a medium frequency vibration would be akin to living out their earthly emotional longings, until they are freed from these desires and are ready to transcend them. Van Praagh tells of an amusing story, live on television, of a reading that he had of a spirit that is enjoying himself having a great time at the races betting on horses! Surely, you and I can tell that there are more uplifting activities that can be had other than the instant gratification horse-racing can bring!
What happens when the spirit releases the lower elements of its emotional state? It goes through another death of sorts, Van Praagh explains. This death enables the soul to advance to a higher spiritual sphere and to become a MORE ENLIGHTENED BEING.
In this dimension, the higher etheric frequencies are emanated by souls that have bonded together to form a community of like-mindedness. They reach a divine realm that is refined to the finest of elements. Van Praagh says that the spirits in this realm refer to a certain `lightness` and `fullness` of the world in which they reside by describing how their environment is in unison and complementary to everything else. It is a magnificent world filled with immense beauty and glorious landscape. I`m sure they are describing heaven, or nirvana, or paradise - take your pick.
The rest of the book describes real-life experiences of people whose outlook in life have changed after undergoing sessions with their departed loved ones using Van Praagh as a medium.

Because it is an unknown experience. But if a medium tells us what happens after the spirit leaves the body, will it banish our fear of death? Will it heal the strained relations of some of us with their departed? Will it change our outlook on life? Many say they do, after having sessions with the renowned medium James Van Praagh. He is the author of the #1 New York Times Bestseller book "Talking to Heaven".

I have read its moving sequel
"Reaching to Heaven." It never ceased to amaze me how Van Praagh`s seances have changed the lives of his guests for the better. They would readily confirm the contacts he made with their departed loved ones or acquaintances. They would tell how relieved they were after the session from the experience of relating again, albeit in the metaphysical realm, with them.
And isn`t that a refreshing view of how we should live our life on earth?

Cheers.

You may or may not believe what Van Praagh is saying. Me? Frankly, I don't give a sh _t. There are many more mundane things that cry for my attention.
I had to admit though that I find the author`s overall message really striking, i.e., we do not have to wait until we die to experience eternal bliss, or eternal damnation. On earth, "YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CREATING YOUR OWN HEAVEN OR HELL BASED ON
YOUR THOUGHTS, WORDS AND DEEDS," he admonishes. Transition to an afterlife of bliss and peacefulness will surely be made easy if we live a decent life on earth by respecting others and our environment, and above all, by radiating love and care for everyone and everything around us. Wouldn't it feel wonderful to make a graceful exit to the great beyond with a wide smile on our face, like the three smiling corpses?
