"He traded in his hat and horse for suntan oil!" In Hawaiian, Waikiki Cowboy acutally means, the "Water Dancing Cowboy." You know, the fun-in-the-sun kind of guy or gal. This website is a tribute to our world traveling visitors, especially the ones in Waikiki, Hawaii. Waikiki Country, also known as Tropical Country is what Eddy's music is all about. Although he has been singing most of his life, it was between 1980 and 1984 that Eddy sang at the Halekoa Hotel in the Mauka Lounge, as well as the Wind Jammer Cruises. He sang Hawaiian, the Standards, Comedy and his own Special Songs. Maybe your were there? Do you remember the Mai Tai song, and the local version of 'Lucille?' It is the singing that stays with you and happily rolls through your head as you enjoy being in Hawaii. In 1983 Eddy wrote and recorded "Waikiki Cowboy" on a 45 record. This was before CD's came out. Shortly thereafter, Eddy was dubbed "The Waikiki Cowboy" by the Honolulu Advertiser, a local newspaper. People came to hear him sing every night, and planned their trips around all the fun and great music A Little Hawaiin History: Many years ago, Waikiki was an outlet to artesian wells. Water was flowing down the mountain and coming up in the area we call Waikiki. That water was dancing and sprouting up out of the ground in the shadow of Diamond Head, and that is why the Hawaiians named that area Waikiki, (remember that name means 'Water Dancing!') Talk about Hawaiian history. Eddy was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on the island of Oahu, and grew up in a musical family. His father, David Kaanoi, sang Hawaiian music and played the guitar. Eddy's mother, Emily, danced and sang Hawaiian music, as well as listened to country music on the radio. So it was natural for Eddy to sing country and Hawaiian music. Eddy has four brothers and one sister. Eddy moved to California to raise a family and now has two children. He sings in Hawaii and on the Mainland here in California and has been recording his original and standard songs. Take a listen and if you like it, feel free contact us to make an order. Eddy is alive and well and sends a big 'Aloha' to all his fans and friends. |
