The center console on the left is a stock 94-98, the one on the right is a stock 79-86, and the one in the middle is the hybrid of the two. |
From the shifter forward is the 86, and the shifter back is the 98. |
This is a close-up of the 86 part of the console. |

This is the HVAC controls from a 1996 Cobra that I fabbed into the piece that used to house the warning lights and clock in the 79-86 part. I've wired it up so that it properly controls everything |

This is the stock 86 dash that I'm using. I've modified the guage area to house a set of VDO Millennium guages is the factory locations. |

This is the part of the dash where the stock HVAC controls were located. I modified the area to house the boost and fuel pressure guages, and a digital air/fuel ratio guage. The rear defrost switch is out of a 96 Cobra and the power mirror switch is from a Ford Taurus |
Anyone who's ever owned a 79-86 Mustang can vouch as to how cheap the center console is. Since I was intent on keeping the 86 dash, I was stuck with the center console as well. One day I got my hands on a 98 center console and started to compare it to the 86, and after some planning and ALOT of help from a friend name Randy Moruzzi that can weld and fabricate plastic, this is what resulted. In addition to the mods that you see here, I had to cut the metal piece from a 98 that the e-brake mounts to and reweld it into the my 79 so that I could move the handle from the center to the right side of the driveshaft tunnel. Every mod that I make to this car has to end up looking as OE as possible, or I don't do it. |
