How to convert songs on cassette tapes into MP3 files?
Source: Yahoo Internet Life Magazine
The first thing you need to do is make sure your computer has a line-in or mic-in socket, and that your cassetter player or stereo has an output jack. If they do, then feel free to read on. If not, you're out of luck.

The next thing you need to do is purchase a cable that connects your PC to your cassetter player. Your sound card likely uses a 1/8-inch stereo plug. The cable's other end, depending on your cassette player, may use one or two RCA stereo plugs. You can purchase the cable at your local Radio Shack or
RadioShack.com.
Once your equipment is linked via cable, you must download and install software that's capable of recording songs from the cassetter player. Both Musicmatch Jukebox 6.0 and RealJukebox 2 can record from external devices.
With both the PC and cassette player on, you're now ready to begin recording. If you use Musicmatch Jukebox, click the Options menu and choose Recorder/Source/Line In. If you use RealJukebox, click the Tools menu and choose Record from Mic/Line In. Immediately begin playing your cassette tape.
