Four-way junction - or maybe it is properly called five-way - one in, four out. It is held on with a vertical bolt and nut. Underneath the junction is a bracket that's welded to the frame; it has a slot, so that the nut (barely discernable through the grease in the bottom photo, at the upper right) only needs to be loosened from the bolt a bit in order to remove the assembly. You do need to get at the head of the bolt underneath the bracket. I don't know if you can access it with the body on the car, but if you can it must be hard. Good luck! It takes a 7/16" wrench.
On the left can be seen the pressure switch that operates the brake lights (it's not near the brake pedal like you may have seen on many other cars). This one is actuated by hydraulic pressure.. I suppose this is actually more accurate than the mechanical type - if your master cylinder fails, the cars behind you won't be misled into thinking your brakes are functional. |
