| It is claimed that you should never take apart the two halves of the front brake calipers. I am not sure why this is; I did take mine apart, and a good thing it was: the O-rings between the two halves had turned to muck. Finding replacement O-rings was a challenge; the rebuild kit I got contained everything else, but not them. The Roadster Factory rebuilds these calipers so I gave them a call and they revealed that the Girling part number is GI 67320782, and they did supply them to me. The other challenge was finding the torque values for the four bolts that hold the two halves together, as they do not seem to be published. More digging...and the numbers are: 45 ft-lb for the small ones, and 75 ft-lb for the large ones. This picture isn't too great but if you look you can spot the hole where the brake fluid passes between the two halves - between the upper two bolt holes. What isn't clear is that the hole sits in a recessed area on the caliper half on the right - this to receive the O-ring. The O-ring, which seems to have a 1/16" cross-section, still gets compressed a bit to ensure a good seal. |
