As I had converted my Triumph TR3 to an alternator, I had its generator and regulator left over and I decided to use them on the Fergie. The original generator's output capacity is 11 amps and the new one is 19 so I guess I can run spotlights or a stereo...really my hope is that the battery will recharge faster if I ever run into periods of extended cranking, maybe in the winter. It looked promising as the mounting tabs on the new generator lined up with the upper tabs on this bracket. When I bolted it onto the tractor though the generator pulley was too far forward, because there is a fan between the body of the generator and the pulley which isn't there on the original. To move the body of the generator back, I made the two holes into slots (see lower left of picture), and took off the front mounting tab and welded it back on farther forward. If I ever want to use the original generator I can slide the bracket farther forward and put a few washers behind the front mounting tab. |
