OPENING DAY FRIDAY MAY 22, 2009

Life is short, summer is shorter so you may as well come out every day you can to Deep River Waterpark. Today, for the first time in a very long time I returned to Deep River Waterpark and it was a wonderful feeling. Parking was ample. It was 11:42 a.m. and according to the sign it was 68 degrees with a breeze. I was immediately disturbed as I saw Paddles T Otter had a big season pass so who wants to be Guest Service Person of the year by getting the extremley important T on my pass you can even leave my last name off as I go by Mark T anyone if they could get the T in there for a mascot it should be able to be done for me.

I was greeted at Guest Services by some people I did not know but that is ok because every year is different and they asked how many times I come a year and I said I hope 50 or more so I am sure I will know them eventually. My bag was checked it was way to small I did not like it. I don't even know what I could fit in it certainly not a towel. I proceeded to enter the park and was so happy to see Caitlin at the wave pool and it took me 3 years to learn her name and 4 years to learn how to spell Caitlin but she may be adjective worthy you never know. I took "The Hike" and then I became reacquainted with water starting at the action river entrance very slowly.

Last year each time I went under water which I love to do I expereinced temporary hearing loss so I had to curtail that. Earlier this year the doctor diagnosed that wax had built up in my ear, created a dam which trapped water in my ear and I had been in discomfort since September 2007. It is suppose to be fixed now so I went under water and when I came up I could hear so it has to be a good year. I began the day where I had climbed the 1 millionth stair whatever happen to that sign, or painting the stair they were going to do to commemorate that night? The only choice was yellow bowl slide as red was not open. However, the lifeguard had on a red swimsuit

I would learn that this year the uniform will be uniform and all the female lifeguards will wear a very modest suit so you will not be able to tell if they do crunches. The lead guards will wear red suits which are the quite tacky suits that lasted only a season because they were so bad and reminded the patrons of blood in the water. For the first ride of the season I was pushed by Jessie so I am sure you know that made me very happy. I did get stuck so the next time I got a tube with less air. The next ride was better I did not get stuck. I learned that Jessie will only be at the park on the weekends so I should bring her Tootsie Pops then. I do not know if I can do that as the bit is Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop Tubin Tooooooooooooooosday and then on Wednesday "Let's Pretend The Day Didn't End" it doesn't extend into weekends and I would never distribute Tootsie Pops except for special occassions such as the 4th of July on any other day to anyone. There is one exception to that but I can't tel you who it is so maybe now there can be two exceptions.

I rode the yellow bowl slide 7x in a row and certainly am not in mid season form or in as good of shape as I would like to start the season. Curse of my love of bread. I had to go around the action river a couple of times to get the necessary rest and then I gathered my things and took "The Hike" and went to the storm where I would attempt "The Classic" for the very first time this year. I have done "The Classic" since the Storm was introduced in 1996. It goes vortex, abyss, cyclone, cyclone, abyss, vortex, vortex, abyss, cyclone and cyclone and that cyclone is rough but I did make it through "The Classic" The stairs on the storm are easier to climb than those on the bowl slides which are the toughest in the park as they are slippery when wet, they get hot and the spacing is rough but I still love climbing them. The stair count went to 1,158 and once again I was able to climb 1,000 stairs in a day so that was great.

Now I went over to the Lazy River and even I will admit that water was freezing. It was a good thing I tried it though as whitewater is my favorite slide and I think that if I would have ended up in that it would have been a shock to my entire body. I did go around just half way. I did see Caitlin see now I know how to spell my name. I told her my prayers were answered as I didn't want her storyline to end and then I have to come up with a way she died. She was tired of walking but she walked me to the exit and said she would see me around and then I was so happy despite the fact my toes had turned as blue as her suit.

I once again took "The Hike" and went in the action river and rode it to the yellow bowl slide. I had progress at the yellow bowl slide as now I rode it 8 times. There is this game I like to play "Outlast The Lifeguard" where I just ride a ride from when the lifeguard comes untilt he lifeguard goes but there would be none of that today. The stair count went to 1,750 and then around the action river I went and this time I went through the buckets and to the island where I did get stuck but I got to see Jessie there who made no effort to pull me out of that as most guards have done but I was ok. Several times I ended up the wrong way. I did not wish to exert any energy during the rest period. I had already been in the rivers to much today but it will be that way at the start.

I did get off the island and then once again took "The Hike" and was so tempted by the Dragon but lets see 1995 before park was open I fractured my left wrist, In 2007 I slammed my left shoulder into the yellow bowl slide and suffered pain ever since, this winter I fell and fractured my left elbow which apparenlty caused issues with my left wrist apparently I can't even make a cerain motion now to get my hands flat but I can't do it with my right hand either so I have stayed off body slides so shouldn't I give it awhile. I did not the dragon called out with it's siren song and up I went and down I came and I expereinced mild pain and the aspercreme was not with me so I had to pause and shake it off and well me I wanted to go right back up but I did stop myself. The stair count went to 1,844

Now I once again took "The Hike" and rode the yellow bowl slide 2x and the stair count went to 1992 and I was tempted to stop but the numbers weren't even so around the action river I went and guess who was at yet anothe stand? It was "The Lady in Red" Jessie who I indicated I was not following so no need alarmed that this crazy guy is followin me. Apparently, they all know I am crazy and I'll stipulate to that. My theme song is Billy Joel's You May Be Right but sometimes crazy means happy.

I decided "The Last Ride" should be cyclone since water was to cold at whitewater so I did a lot of walking today and I took "The Hike" and went on Abyss and Cyclone and then I made my way to the exit. It was 3:17 p.m. and 72 degrees when I left and weather permitting I return tomorrow sometime in the morning to continue the Memorial Day 5,000 and to celbrate the opening weekend and Memorial Day I am even bringing Tootsie Pops with me. Remember Life is Short summer is shorter so come out as often as you can to the Midwest's Premiere Waterpark Deep River Waterpark of course. I'll see you there.

There I am with my nephews Luke T on Halloween 2008 which is also Luke Tyler's birthday. He turned 3. He was black spiderman. Also pictured my nephew Matthew T as batman

On Tuesday 12.16.08 while shoveling his driveway your host Mark T slipped and fell on some ice fracturing his left elbow. How he longs for Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop Tubin Tooooooooooooooosdays to return and they will on June 9, 2009. For now he is recovering from the first serious injury he has suffered away from Deep River Waterpark.

What's your Host Mark T up to while we wait for Deep River Waterpark to reopen on May 22, 2009.

As of February 12, 2009 nearly 2 months after the fall, Mark T. has completed physical therapy. He thanks Shannon Costella physical therapist at the Hammond Clinic for helping him return to 100%. Now his left arm is perfectly straight, his elbow can bend, and his wrist may have more movement than it had since it was fractured in 1995 falling down the stairs of whitewater prior to the park even being open. Mark T. is not someone who normally seeks medical advice yet alone physical therpy but was amazed that despite the fact he continued to believe that his arm was straight what great progress was made in 3 weeks. He now has hope "The Show" will go on in 2009. Perhaps 2009 will be the year for "The Impossible Dream" "The Show Every Hour on The Hour from 10 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

On February 17, 2009 President Mark T. Camarena, CMA presided over the Calumet Chapter of the IMA first ever meeting in Mokena Illinois a Angelino's 40 people were present for one of the hottest topics in accounting today International Finanical Reporting Standards "IFRS". (left)

As of February 25, 2009 Dr. Bacevich declared that Mark T had completely recovered from the broken elbow he suffered on Tuesday December 16, 2008. As Mark always insisted his arm is perfectly straight. Dr. Bacevich also may have fixed the ear that has plagued your host since September 2007 leaving him unable to go underwater without frequently experiencing temporary hearing loss. Now if we could just find someone to fix up the left shoulder damaged by the yellow bowl slide it would be a whole new Mark T. Time heals all wounds. Soon it will be opening day and time once again to play at Indiana's Premiere Waterpark Deep River Watepark of course. I'll see you there.

On March 28, 2009 spring left Northwest Indiana and the wind blew and blew and blew this tree down in Mark T's back yard. (right)

On April 12, 2009 it was Easter and it was also Mark T's birthday. On this day the Mark T's one and only birthday wish actually came true as he got to see Storyline Favorite Megan F at the church which he attends. She looked more beautiful than he could ever even imagine and he stole a small smile from her which warmed his heart and truly made this one of his greatest birthday's of all time.

On May 2, 2009 Mark T was at the Kentucky Derby to see 50-1 Long Shot Bird on A wire ridden by Calvin Borel pull off quite the upset. He enjoyed the teller #1336 who was very good looking and wore glasses but he never learned her name. He did have some winners so got to see her a few times

On May 12, 2009 Mark T's 2000 Mazdz Protege turned past the 200,000 mile mark

On Friday May 22, 2009 Weather permitting Mark T. returns to Deep River Waterpark for the Memorial Day 5,000 where he will try to climb 5,000 stairs during the 4 days but how many days we will we get to play and now Geocities has announced sometime later this year it will close so should Mark T find a new home or will this be the last season of Deep River Waterpark Daily with your Host Mark T?

In case you are wondering a CMA is a Certified Management Accountant. Currently, I serve as the Assistant Controller of Tranzact Technologies Inc

I pronounce the T in my name. There is a very special reason for it and it is very important to me but very few people know that story.

Mark T's favorite holiday of them all Valentine's day has finally arrived. It also means less than 100 days until Deep River Waterpark opens for the 2009 season.

In 2009 did someone I know from Deep River Waterpark win for a 3rd year in a row? There were 3 contenders from the 2008 season. Do you know who they were? You can always e-mail me atmarkt@550access.com with your guess and maybe I will tell you. If you read 2008 Deep River Waterpark Daily with your host Mark T. You probably know something about storyline Favorite Megan F who became the favorite to be Mark T's 2009 Valentine in August 2008. Did she win my 2009 Valentine?

The answer to these questions is here Mark T's 2009 Valentine

Mark T. was pleased to name Mark T's 2008 Valentine click on the link if you want to see the Valentine for the 2008 winner.

Tootise Roll Tootsie Pop Tubin Tooooooooooooooooooosday returned Tuesday June 10, 2008 and lasted until August 12, 2008. Now they are all done, I brought you each and every one and we saved the best for last. Look for Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop Tubin Toooooooooooooooooooosdays to return in 2009

On Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop Tubin Tooooooooooooooooosday #3 June 24, 2008 for the first time ever my 2 year old nephew Luke Tyler rode a slide at Deep River Waterpark. He chose the slide I have a personal vendetta against. We survived and after that ride he just kept saying "One More Time" Here is a picture of the exit into the splash pool. You can barely see the little guy but he had fun and you can too by visiting Deep River Waterpark.

Will Chicago get the Olypmics in 2016? If so will that be the year and will it ever happen that Mark T. gets to 2 million stairs and if that is the year will anybody who witnessed 1 Man 1 Park 1 Million Stairs be at that day too? Maybe 2016 or 2017 but so many things can happen. To get to 2 Millon stairs climbed first had to get to 1 million and now there are less than 1 million let to reach 2 million

On occassion there is a day or 2 that the discomfort in my left shoulder goes away but it does come back. Time should have healed all wounds but it has not yet.

At the time this site was last updated Mark T. Camarena was in no way associated with Deep River Waterpark, The Lake County Parks Association, Splash Station, The Joliet Park District, The M & M Mars Corporation, or Tootsie Roll Industries Inc.

If you can't get to Deep River Waterpark today then come tomorrow in the mean time you can take a slide down memory lane with me Mark T as I go back all the way to 1995 to bring you some of the faces that graced Deep River Waterpark summer after summer as it is time to say Goodbye Kate with this historic lifetime achievement award

Mark T. Camarena, CMA is a past president of the Calumet Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants. Currently I serve as the Calumet Chapter Secretary, Newsletter Editor and Webmaster.
