FEATURES OF THE NEW YAHOO! MAIL

*By clicking on a message subject you can see the contents of an email in a preview pane without opening it.  To open it you need to double click on it.

Yahoo Mail displays the preview panes as a standard email program does, letting you sort them by date, sender, subject, size, flag status, or attachment  by left-clicking on one of those terms at the top of the list of messages in the Inbox.

When you right-click on a message you get a list of options that pertain to the message — like ”Open”, “Print”, “Reply to Sender” or “Reply to All”

You can also left-click or right-click on seven (7) small triangles on Yahoo Mail.  Right-clicking produces a list of 12 standard options.  Left-clicking produces a drop down list of options specific to that triangle subject.  Of particular interest might be the option “Tutorials” found by left-clicking “Help” or its triangle.

*Between the list of messages in the “Inbox” pane and the preview pane is a horizontal bar which can be raised or lowered by clicking while holding the clicker on it.

*When composing a “New” email, a space is immediately available for carbon copies but you have to click on “Show BCC” to open a space to list Blind copies.

To terminate without sending a “New” message you are composing, click on the “X” in the “New Email Message” tab.

Using the “check” boxes, you can select a group of messages in the same way you would with a standard email program, to delete them, mark them as read or unread, etc.

You can drag and drop your messages to other folders..

*Yahoo Mail offers unlimited storage of emails and up to 10 megabytes of attachments per message,

It has a very fast and good search capability so you can keep years of messages on hand and retrieve them quickly.

*Yahoo Mail features a very nice tabbed interface. With this interface, which is separate from the browser’s own tabs, you could have your inbox in one tab, an instant-message or text-message conversation in another and a new email you are composing in yet another. You can move among these tabs without losing the content in any of them.

*What was called “Address Book” in the old version is now called “Contacts” and can be found in the list of system supplied folders on the left of your mail screen.

*In the area labeled “My Folders” below the list of system supplied folders, “Inbox”, “Drafts”, “Sent”, “Spam”, Trash, etc. you can add your own personal folders.

The new Yahoo Mail has a built-in instant-messaging module. You can choose to communicate with any of your contacts via a real-time chat, right from within Yahoo Mail,  as long as that contact is online and has an IM account on either the Yahoo or Microsoft instant-messaging networks. You don’t need to be running your IM program.   The new Yahoo Mail also allows you to exchange text messages with people on cellphones, although the message exchange must be initiated from Yahoo Mail.

Your Instant Messaging status can be set to “Available”, “Busy”, or “Invisible” by clicking on the status word next to your sign-on name.

*The advertising which creeps into the right side of the free version of Yahoo Mail, can be temporally removed by clicking on the right facing triangle in the middle of the screen.
