Wally Gray's Abbreviated Ancestor Chart
This chart goes back nine generations to pick up the grandparents of Johann Peter
BUBICKHOFFER. Johann Peter was our immigrant ancestor who immigrated to Nova Scotia from
the Palatinate in southwest Germany in 1752. His surname was anglicized in Canada to
Publicover. The eighth generation also picks up two other immigrant ancestors, Johann
Philip HIMMELMAN and Leopold Frederick LANGILLE. John Peter Bubickhoffer came over on the Sally,
Johann Philip Himmelman came over on the Gale and Leopold Frederick Langille came
over on the Betty. All of these sister ships arrived in Halifax in 1752.
Definition of Ancestor or Ahnentafel Chart
This Ancestor Chart is also called an Ahnentafel* Chart. The number (which appears
before the name) for the father of any individual is double that of the individual, and
the mother's number is the father's number plus one. This chart is similar in nature to a
pedigree chart. Because it is vertical rather than horizontal, it takes much less space.
In theory, each generation doubles in the number of names, but this doubling depends upon
the information we have and sometimes results in duplications. The G which prefixes the
number stands for Gray to distinguish the numbers from those on the Frances
Mildred McNabb chart which start with M.
The number immediately following the names are RINs (Record Information Numbers) which
are provided by our computer genealogy program. Dates and places in brackets
(<>) are approximations provided by our computer program (Personal Ancestral File
4.0.2)
* Ahnentafel is a German word for pedigree or "forebearer table." It
is pronounced AW-NEN-TAW-FULL.
