“THE BRIDGE”

THE WALNUT CREEK SERVICE UNIT NEWSLETTER

AUGUST, 2004

FROM YOUR SUDS

There are four of us working together this year as SUDS, so we are really promoting the teamwork objective in our SU.  I am very excited about the changes that have already been introduced by putting our heads together, to bring the very best program to our girls this upcoming year!  We had a very fun and productive meeting in August with the troops in the SU, and the minutes to that meeting have already been sent out.  If you did not receive them, please contact me (Penny) and I will resend them to you.  Please share all information with your parents, so they can be a part of what we are doing and also invite their families to participate in some of the opportunities listed in this newsletter.

Please check out our cool website, as Carrie has been very innovative in presenting this information to you in a clear and easy to use format. (www.oocities.org/walnlutcreeksu).

See you at the September meeting! Your WCSU team!

Night Crawling idea for older girls
This was sent by an older girl leader and I think it would be a lot of fun for us to do this with some of our girls at some point.  You can read what Alison Webre did and think about incorporating this into a great overnight sleepover for your girls.
From Alison:
Since 9/11 Austin pretty much closes up tight.  The Capital, The State Cemetery, 911 Call Center, DPS, APD and Breckenridge are either closed or discourages extra visitors.  So what
we did is as follows.

We did the Austin Patch Program at night with a few modifications.  We visited each place and took the girls pictures posing with them as follows.

We started off in Round Rock on the
Chisholm Trail and climbed the LARGE Longhorn statute.
Then we went to the Arboretum and the girls posed on and around the cows
near Amy's Ice Cream.
This was a hoot as the sprinklers came on before the girls could get out of the way.
Mount Bonnell
Treaty Oak
Moon Towers
Putt Putt
Katz's for a late dinner
The Capital and posed in front of the DPS car blocking the entrance.
The Governor's Mansion, also posed in front of a DPS car.
Paramount
UT fountain
UT Union where for $4.75 we played one game and rented our shoes.  They are open until
3AM.
Littlefield House, where the girls surprised...and were surprised by a
HOBO sleeping on the porch.

We left Round Rock at
10PM and got home around 4:45.  The girls had a great time and we were really pressed to get everywhere within the time that we had allowed for each visit.
