Riga-Tallinn-Berlin

28.1.-4.2.2006

In the end of January I flew from Ljubljana to Berlin, where I met my Spanish friend Marta for a adventurous journey into the Balitc states. Our first stop was in Riga, the capital of Latvia. We arrived in sunshine, but it should be the only sunny day of our journey.

Riga is a quite big city with a nice old center, big squares and a lot of parks. On one of the squares right in the middle of the town there is the statue of liberty, next to it there are a lot of cafes and especially in the night there is a lot of life in the whole city with a lot of bars and pubs.

On empty, very straight and new roads (thanks to the European Union) we went with a really big, modern double-decker bus to Estonia. We shared this bus for around 70 persons with four russian people and were watching a very bad synchronised film in Russian.

When we arrived in Tallinn we had to walk through almost the whole city to find our hostel in the very center of the old town. The hostel was like a shared flat with people from the Netherlands, Australia, Japan... and of course it had a sauna (we have been really near to Finnland!)

The center of Tallinn still looks like a town from the middleages with its massive city walls and towers. On the outer sides of the city wall you can find a very modern city with shopping centers, kino and big skyscrapers. The only really confusing thing there is the language: like Finnish it has really a lot of vowels! Our last stop of this journey was Berlin, where we made a very short sightseeing-bus-tour to the best known sights of the city like Reichstag, Brandenburger Tor, Alexanderplatz... In the evening we enjoyed one last time the international night life in Berlin.
