We arrived in Crete around 5:30am Tuesday morning, and had to walk up into the port town of Iraklion to find our hotel. We were told that cars couldn't drive to the hotel which is why we had to walk, but for the majority of the uphill walk, there were plenty of cars, and we were sure the inability to pick us up stemmed more from a wish for sleep on their part! We got to the hotel around 6am and went straight up to bed.

We finally got up around 1pm, and did housekeeping chores (washing our towels, etc.) and watched tv (first time in about a month) till late afternoon. Then we walked out to find food, and stopped at a place nearby with a pretty good pizza. As it was already pretty late in the day, we split one and planned to eat later, then ended up picking up snacks and candy and staying in the room instead. We'd only walked around a little, down to the waterfront and out on the old Venetian sea-wall that surrounds the port, before feeling ready to return to the warmth and comfort of the room.

We called it an early night and planned to head out for a day trip in the morning.
