Glenn's Bologna Journal #2
4-07-02 to 4-08-02

Here it is Sunday night and we are staying at the youth hostel for 3 nights. We are only staying 3 nights because they are booked full from Wednesday night on. We are learning a lot about hostels and the different ways to obtain beds at hostels but I will tell you that story a little later in the week (I am writing this journal on Thursday night).

We joined a group of people in the lounge / television room for conversation. We met quite a few other travelers from around the world, including Sarah (In the Australian Navy and living just north of Sydney), Andres and Sylvia (whom we met earlier, having lived in London but from Columbia), a family from New Zealand (who had recently spent 2 years living in Sweden), Ann (from Norway), and Tomoko (from Osaka). We had great conversation around who was traveling where, sharing of travel information, including places to stay, eat, and see, and just about each other.

We had all decided to stay in for the night. The lady at the front desk made us aware of a pizza joint that would deliver. We all gathered up, decided what to order, and the lady at the desk ordered for us. A little while later (we were getting worried, but this is Italy) the pizza arrived and we enjoyed, and even shared, our meals. The conversation continued until everyone was too tired to stay up any longer. I continued working on my journal until the lights went out around 12:30 a.m..

What to do on Monday? In a hostel there are guidelines to be followed. Breakfast was served between 7:45 and 9:00 a.m.. Don't miss it!!! Breakfast consisted of bread, jam, and coffee or hot water for tea. If breakfast didn't sound good to you or you just plain didn't care, then you had to meet the next guideline. The hostel closed at 10:00 a.m. and did not re-open until 5:00 p.m.. This meant everyone out!!! So we were up around 7:45 a.m., showered, and out of the hostel in time to catch the 10:02 a.m. (Line 93) bus into town. Oh, by the way, what a fantastic breakfast!!!
