The outskirts of Perissa were still only a short walk to the shore |
Glenn's Santorini Journals 5-11-02 Saturday and a chance to do some more relaxing on the beach. We got up in time to have breakfast, which was bread, jam, and coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. We had ours included in the room price, otherwise it was 5 Euro per person for breakfast. We then packed a backpack for the beach and wandered our way through the outskirts of town to the beach. These beaches were made up of black sand, which became extremely hot as the day went on. The water was cool (Erin may say downright cold!!) and the beach was almost empty, except for the few English ladies sunbathing topless a little farther down the beach. (I may not have mentioned earlier but Erin went topless in Malia and again today. I surely don't mind and I am sure other men don't mind much either.) We spent a good portion of the day at the beach, long enough for Erin's chest (edited for content) to get burnt, and we headed back to the hotel. As we walked back to the hotel we stopped in a local grocery store to pick up some munchies, some beer, and some Santorini playing cards. The guy running the place wasn't the best in addition as he originally charged us too much, then gave us too much change back before I explained it to him and gave him back the right amount of money for the purchase. We then headed back to the hotel and laid out by the pool for a few more hours (Erin with her top on) where we had casual conversation with a few other travelers. To close out the day we cleaned up and wandered our way back into town to find some dinner. The walk back into town was a little longer than 5 minutes and a little scary as there was limited lighting and the cars were traveling at excessive speeds on a not so good road that posted 30 kilometer per hour street signs. We did manage to find this great restaurant where we shared a mixed grill platter of pork, curry chicken, lamb, and hamburger. The meal included a Greek salad and wine for only 15 Euro's total. Definitely a delicious dinner for the price. We then proceeded back to the hotel where we called it a night. Sunday's plans included renting scooters and checking out the island. |
