Pompeii, Italy's most visited city, is an amazing mix of history and technology. The ruins showcase a Roman colony buried in Mt. Vesuvius' volcanic eruption of 79AD. Walking through it, we were amazed at the size and preservation of the city, which is still undergoing excavation.

The technology used to preserve this historic site was also impressive: casts were made of holes in the ash, which enables us to see relics of the event, such as humans, pets, and other biological remains, in such detail that you can see expressions on faces and folds in clothing!
At left, Pompeii's Large Theater, which could seat 5,000 people. At right, wall paintings at the fish & meat market, with two casts of bodies found there.
