My original exploration of this field revolved around the construction of my own high speed flash and custom microprocessor delay/trigger circuits. These experiments were only partially successfull and never completed. I happenned across a web page (www.hiviz.com) that described using readily available flash units and simple circuits.
I purchased a couple of Vivitar 283 flash units with the VP-1 power adapters from ebay and picked up the sound trigger from HiViz. Using a 4x5 large format camera, 150mm lense, and Polaroid 55 film I took the following photograph of a balloon bursting
