Fur Trapping
"Behind every fur there's a story. It's a bloody, barbaric story." - Mary Tyler Moore
Trapped animals must also endure a great amount of pain. The most commonly used trap is the leghold trap. Once the animal's leg is trapped, the animals will try knawing off their leg and constantly struggle to free themselves, causing more and more painful wounds. Even after 12 hours the animal is still in extreme torture and are suffering from exhaustion from all the struggling they did. About one out of every four animals escape from the trap and later die from a predator or blood loss. Other traps include the water-set traps where it an take up to 20 minutes of agony until the animal finally drowns, and pole traps where the animals are caught in a tree and hung upside down until they die or the trapper comes to kill them. The animals that are still alive when the trapper gets there are then beaten or stomped to death. Stomping often involves the trapper standing on the animal's rib cage, focusing mainly on the heart. He then grabs the animal's hind legs and yanks them. Aside from fur people also still wear leather, wool, down and silk. All of which are painfully obtained from animals. Is all this pain really worth one fur coat? Is fashion really that important?
