The Block Challenge

Mr. Block is thinking of a number between 10 and 1000 (inclusive) and an AThens Student wants to guess it. AThens Student: “Is your number less than 500?” Block answers the question, but incorrectly. AThens Student: “Is your number a perfect square?” Again, Block answers the question incorrectly. AThens Student: “Is your number a perfect cube?” This time, Block answers the question correctly. “Hmmm…” says AThens Student. “I have narrowed your number down to two possibilities. What is Mr. Block's number? Who are these people?
