2005 BC Problem Answers
The answers for the 2005 BC Questions can be found on this site.
Prediction
I predict that I got a 4 or 5 on the AB
calculus exam.
Advice
I took the AB exam because I felt more confident in the AB topics than
in the BC topics, and I knew I wouldn't have a chance for a 4 or 5 if I took
the BC exam. If you want to
seriously take the BC exam, you should do a lot of extra practice problems at
home to supplement what Mr. Block gives you in class. Just listening in class won’t be enough for a good AP grade.
I will attend Northwestern University in Evanston Illinois, and plan to
major in Biological Sciences.
My sister will be a freshman here and will be part of the class of 2009.
Link 1 - The Box Problem. This site is very helpful, and
tells you if you’re wrong or not.
It has links to Graphical and Calculus methods to solve the problem, and
shows which buttons to press on the calculator to make the graph correct.
Link 2 - The Volume of a Vase Problem. In this site, the
interaction is through picking the appropriate points on the vase to make the
equation applicable, and fit onto the vase’s profile. It takes a while since the more points there are the more
accurate the equation will be.
Also this site gives instructions on how to find the equation on your
graphing calculator.

- The Length of a Pipe Problem. This probleem is similar to the vase problem
above. The coordinate points have

After you have found a function that you are reasonably happy with that describes the curve formed by the car, discuss why it does not do as good a job as you might have hoped.
Then, fi nd the volume if that curve is rotated around the x-axis.
Now that you have coordinates from the applet,
