Hummer

description: Hummer appears as an 8' tall humanoid robot and makes no attempt to hide the fact that he is a machine. Most of his body is camo, except for his hands and head, both of which are a polished black. His rifle rests in a holster on his back. His chest resembles the grill of an Army Jeep or HummVee, Complete with working headlights. He has limited control of his facial expression. His programming is very advanced, beyond the current technology of Rifts Earth. Hummer has feelings, is adaptable, and can act on hunches. Once his friendship is earned, he is fiercely loyal. . The humanoid robot is Hummer's primary form, but he has the ability to change his form into that of a vehicle that resembles a HummVee. The change is entirely mechanical and takes one action (attack) to accomplish. In this form his rifle becomes roof mounted. The HummVee looks and acts just as a normal vehicle would, except it can drive itself, and talks. His voice can be heard in an area around the HummVee, but not much further than normal speech. Hummer can seat 5 with some room for their gear, although they must exit before he can resume his robot form.
History: Hummer comes from a world populated completely by robots called Ferrum, but it was not also so. The planet was originally the domain of humanoid specie called the Ganics. The Ganics’s technology evolved to the point where they could produce artificial intelligence robots. They initially created robots for their vehicles: robot cars that could drive themselves, robot jets that could fly themselves. Then they decided it would better if these vehicles could do something more useful when the vehicle was not being used, so they came up robots that could change from a vehicle into a humanoid form. Eventually the AI grew to a point where the changing robots became self-aware. Frightened by this discovery, the Ganics tried to terminate the self-aware robots, but the robot fought back. A war between humanoid and machine broke out. The robots discovered a way to upgrade older generation robots to make them self aware, greatly increasing their numbers. The Ganics, had lost some of their piloting skill from relying on the robots, and the robots could sneak into Ganics territory disguised as a vehicle. In a very short time the robots were decisively winning the war. The Ganics sued for peace. Some of the robots wanted to accept the peace and live in harmony with the Ganics, but others of the robots believed that the Ganics would again try to enslave the robots and wanted to wipe out the Ganics. The robots that wanted peace vowed to protect the Ganics from being wiped out. A new war was born. Revolution had become civil war. The robots that helped the Ganics became known as the Reconcilerons, or Recons for short, while the robots that wanted the Ganics wiped out became knows as the Purist. According to the Recons, they held off the Purists long enough for several Ganics ships to flee the planet, but the Purist maintain that the ships never made it off world and that the Ganics are now extinct.
Even after the Ganics’s escape/destruction, the battle between the Purists and the Reconcilerons raged. The Purists had developed a new weapon. It was a transporter that allowed them to send troops anywhere on the planet. The Reconcilerons knew it had to be captured. Whoever controlled the transporter would have a huge tactical advantage. Hummer was part of the team sent to capture the transporter. The Recons and Purists battled over the transporter. What neither side knew was that the Purists had actually discovered dimensional technology. The transporter worked by opening a dimension gate and sending troops thru. During the battle the transporter was hit by stray laser fire and exploded. When Hummer came to he was no longer on his own world, but had been transported to Rifts Earth. He had a brief run in with the Coalition when he arrived on Rifts Earth and took the guns from them.
