Fungi

General characteristics

Fungi are both single celled and multicellular. They lack plant roots and chlorophyll. They are either parasites (from living organisms) or saprophytes (from dead plant or animal matter). Most land fungi live and grow underground near the surface.

REPRODUCTION OF FUNGI

Fungi can reproduce both sexualy and asexualy. Sexual reproduction includes the fusion of two nuclei when two sex cells unite. This joining produces spores that will grow into new organisms. Asexual reproduction includes budding, cell division and fragmentation.

lichens and mychorrhiza

Lichens- represent symbiotic relationship between a fungus and a photosynthetic partner.
Mycorrhiza- a symbiotic association between a fungus and a plant root.
