Enjoying the hospitality of our good friends.

We couldn't get within miles of it otherwise, but fortunately, we had friends in high places.  The Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club (membership fee HK$1.8 million, visitor fee HK$1,200 on weekdays) is well-known for its spectacular vistas.  We were the grateful guests of Otto and Ada--both professors living at the university--for lunch, followed by a short tour of the swimming facilities and taking pictures of the golf course.

At a country club like this, even the trash cans are picturesque.  My favorite was the frog trash can.

Even though we were cleaned up and dressed nicely, we evidently stood out as imposters, and I promptly got in trouble for venturing onto the swimming deck without appropriate swimming attire.  But they were polite about it.

A night out at the Viking Restaurant Jay Kuang has long been a family friend, and has been responsible for making sure that we see most of the nicest parts of Hong Kong.  In years past, he has treated us to buffet dinners at the Shangri-La Hotel, and has taken my sister and me on trips to Stanley Market and Repulse Bay.  On this trip, he took our family to the Viking Restaurant, most famous for serving fresh roasted goose.  We also had wintermelon soup served in its rind and peel and eat shrimp (with the heads left on them).
