 285 South Episode 6
Liz, Maria and the
aliens travel to Texas to investigate a geodesic dome, which
they believe may hold the answer to their origin.
In the middle of the night, Michael slips into the UFO
Center through an air conditioning vent. Crossing the room to
a bookshelf, Michael pulls out James Atherton’s Among Us and
sees the same picture of the author standing in front of his
geodesic dome that he saw before when Max had it. When he
cannot find any more books by Atherton, Michael spots a
computer and performs a search for the author. A few findings
come up and Michael prints them. But the printer jams, setting
off an alarm and awakening Milton. The museum curator grabs an
alien statuette for protection and heads toward Michael. A
confrontation is avoided when Deputy Blackwood appears and
arrests Michael.
The next morning in history class, Mr.
Sommers assigns students the job of historians, in which they
are paired with another student and have to ask their partner
very specific personal questions in order to prepare an oral
history report. Maria is paired with the absent Michael, Liz
with Isabel, Max with Kyle. After class, Mr. Sommers thanks
Ms. Topolsky for her suggestion of the assignment, the
questions and the pairings.
That afternoon, Max
rescues Michael from the sheriff’s station, telling Blackwood
that he had given Michael permission to pick up some research
from the UFO Center. Milton agrees not to press charges, but
Valenti takes the computer printout from
Blackwood.
Michael is convinced he made a valuable
discovery, since he learned that the dome he saw in his dream
is located in Marathon, Texas. Michael wants to leave
immediately, but Max and Isabel will not give him the keys to
their Jeep.
Undeterred, Michael hits the road on foot,
his thumb out. Maria pulls up and begins to ask him the
questions for their history assignment. He ignores her until
he suddenly realizes she is driving a car. Michael agrees to
answer her questions in exchange for a ride. When Maria gets
out of the car to drop off a package, Michael hops in the
driver’s seat and takes off. Maria jumps in the car, unwilling
to let anything happen to her mother’s Jetta. She discreetly
hits speed dial on the cell phone in her bag and gets Liz.
Back at the Crashdown, Kyle probes Max with questions
about his past for their assignment. Liz is listening
uncomfortably when her phone rings. She hears Michael and
Maria talking, with Maria mentioning that they are going south
on the 285. At this point, Michael discovers the phone and
throws it out the window. Liz quickly tells Max and Isabel
what she heard and they take off after Maria and Michael in
the Jeep.
Baxter follows them, updating Ms. Topolsky
on his progress. Ahead of them on 285, Michael is pulled over
for speeding by a highway patrolman. Maria gives him twenty
seconds to convince her not to turn him in. He tells her about
Atherton and the dome, explaining that it is the only
connection they have ever had to where they come from. To his
relief, Maria does not give Michael away.
At the
Valenti house, Kyle asks his father where Liz might have been
going with Max and Isabel. This prompts Valenti to more
closely examine the UFO Center printout and surmise that they
are heading to Atherton’s home. He takes off for Marathon and
Kyle follows. On the road ahead it begins to rain. Liz and
Isabel go into a truck stop ladies room to dry off. Isabel
uses her powers to instantly become dry and coifed. They share
their insecurities about the other one taking Max away. In a
moment of bonding, Isabel performs the same makeover on Liz.
Further ahead on the road, the Jetta stalls on Michael
and Maria. After confessing that he is not sufficiently adept
with his special powers to fix the car, Michael spots a nearby
motel and they head for The Sultan’s Palace.
Meanwhile, Max notices that Agent Baxter has been
following them and gives him the slip. When Max tells Liz
where they are going and why, she realizes that finding the
answers are just as important to him as they are to Michael.
Just then, they spot the Jetta and burst in on Maria and
Michael as they are sharing a moment in which they discover
that each believes there must be something better for them
than Roswell.
Kyle shows up and Michael throws him
across the room with more power than he should be able to. Liz
convinces Kyle to leave, but not before his curiosity has been
raised to a new level, one mixed with danger. At this point,
the aliens are ready to go home, but Liz persuades them to
continue on to Marathon.
Everyone is silent as the
Jeep approaches the geodesic dome and Michael comes face to
face with his vision. The place appears to have been empty for
decades. After Michael unsuccessfully tries his key on the
door, Max uses his powers to open it. They go upstairs and
find nothing but empty bookshelves. Michael flashes on a
hidden room and they discover a lock inside a slat that held
up a bookshelf. The key works on this lock, opening up a
secret chamber that contains hundreds of books and papers.
Hearing footsteps coming up the stairs, they close themselves
in the secret room and hold their breath. Valenti enters, only
to be immediately knocked out from behind by Ms. Topolsky… To
