Matthew A. Henson accompanied
polar explorer Robert E. Peary
on a U.S. expedition to the North
Pole on April 6, 1909. He was the
first African American explorer
who successfully reached the North Pole in 1909.

(1877–1963)
Invented the gas mask and also Invented the first traffic signal.

Invented a hair-growing lotion.

(1856–1910)

(1848–1928)
Invented an important part of the light bulb.. the carbon filament.


                            

Elijah McCoy
(1843–1929)
Invented an oil-dripping cup for trains.
Many inventors tried to copy but were unsuccessful,
but people started asking for the "real McCoy" and
that is where the phrase originated from.


                            

Benjamin O. Davis, Jr.
(1812-2002)
General Davis was the commander
of the first unit of black pilots,
known as the Ninety-ninth Fighter
Squadron or the Tuskegee Airmen.
He was the first African-American
to become a United Sates Air Force
general, and had attained three
stars before retiring.
President Bill Clinton awarded
Davis his fourth star, advancing
him to Full General, in 1998.


                            

Jane Bolin
(1908- )
First black woman to receive a law degree from Yale University and First black woman in the United States to be appointed to a judgeship. Judge of Domestic Relations Court of the City of New York.
