Starting Rules
and Expectations
1. You must begin play as a common race.  Kobolds from Saldrin while possible at higher levels are not likely to be adventuring at level one in this world, and as are not suitable for a starting character.

2. Generate your characters using a 28 point, point buy and start at first level.  In addition to the normal point buy at the game itself (not before) an additional 4 points will be distributed to your lowest ability scores (before racial adjustments).  A 1d4 will be rolled and added to your lowest ability score.  If the number is under 4 an addition 1d4 will be rolled and added to your next lowest score (to a maxium of 4 - the first roll).  This will continue until 4 points have been added.

3. Keep track of food, water, and ammunition.  I expect your characters to have the basics when we start, and yes these things do cost gold.  As do other basics such as a backpack (2gp), and flint and steel (1gp).

4. All core classes, the artificier, hexblade, and core psionic classes can be taken.  Entering a prestige class requires the approval of the Dungeon Master.  Even if these prestige classes are found in the Dungeon Master's Guide.

5. The books I allow are as follows:
a. All core books
b. Draconomicon
c. Savage Species
d. The Complete Series
e. Song and Silence
f. The Expanded Psionics Handbook
g. The Planar Handbook
h. Libris Mortis

See the list of banned feats and spells to make sure those items are in the game.  If you want to take a prestige class from one of these books tell me in advanced so I can review it.  In cases where 3.0 and 3.5 share content use the 3.5 content.  This list will likely grow in size once I finally get down to the game store.

5. I expect players to think.  Tactics are a good idea.  Min/maxing is often a good thing.  It doesn't matter how perfect a character is for role-playing if he can't survive the first roll in a combat.

6. Expectations of the players:
a. Know your powers.
b. Don't be stupid.
c. Show up to games.
d. If you can't give someone else your character sheet so they can run you.
e. If you play evil don't be an idiot.

7. While I do enjoy a freeform world at least do your first mission before running off to do random junk.  The first mission often serves to get the players used to the DM's style so avoiding it is a bad idea.

8. Don't put ranks in diplomacy.  I do not use this skill.  You have to Roleplay it rather than  just roll it.
