W&J TAKES WVU TO SHOOTOUT, FALLS TO JOHN CARROLL 5-4

OCTOBER 9-10TH, 2009 -- On Friday night, W&J traveled to the Morgantown Municipal Arena and took the host Mountaineers to a shootout where WVU ultimately won by the final of 2-1. Goaltender John Mioduszewski played nearly perfect in net for the Presidents, turning aside several prime WVU scoring opportunities. W&J defenseman Joe Dugan (1) and WVU's Nick Bodnar scored their team's lone goals of the game during regulation. After nothing was resolved in overtime, the two teams headed to a shootout. Ryne Savisky and Mike Heltman each scored for Washington & Jefferson in the shootout while WVU's Tom Anderson, Mitch Rosendale, and Kris Anderson respectively scored to top W&J in the shootout.

On Saturday night at the Iceoplex at Southpointe, W&J battled in another College Hockey Mid-America (CHMA) league game versus John Carroll University. The Presidents found their offense but lost by the score of 5-4 as JCU's Zach Skook scored twice and added an assist for the Blue Streaks. Senior Jim Pasquine (1,2) scored twice for the Presidents while Mike Heltman (2) and Mike Penkrot (1) each added single goals. W&J had a chance to tie the game with 30 seconds remaining but Jim Pasquine and Ryne Savisky were stopped on a 2 on 1 with a great pad save by JCU goaltender Nick Fabrizio.
