Episode 13

Mika’s Secret

(outside of the classroom)

Tsuta: Good-morning, Noelle.

Noelle: Good-morning, Tsuta!

Tsuta: Are you still worried about Kaigara?

Noelle: A little…I just hope that Wakaru was right…(has an image of Kaigara acting weird and herself trying to rescue Kaigara)

Tsuta: Maybe we could stop by their house after school.

Noelle: Maybe…it would make me feel better knowing that Kaigara is all right…(both girls look up to shockingly see Mika. Mika walks past them, looking at the ground. She doesn’t say anything)

Noelle and Tsuta: MIKA??? (she sits down in a seat, opens her bag, and pulls out a pencil. Noelle and Tsuta stare, their mouths dropped opened, from outside of the classroom)

Mrs. Suisho: (from behind) Girls, please take your seats. (Noelle and Tsuta walk into the classroom and sit down. They both look up at Mika while their classmates take their seats) Kaigara will not be joining us anymore. Her family has decided she would be better if she were taught at home.

Tsuta: (whispering to Noelle) Well, that answers one question.

Mrs. Suisho: We also have another new student. (looks at a piece of paper) Mika Moshara?

Mika: (stands up) Yes.

Mrs. Suisho: (Noelle and Tsuta watch Mika curiously) I would like everyone to make Mika feel welcomed here. Now for today’s lesson…(Mika sits down)

Noelle: (thoughts) I wonder what happened to her…(she looks at Mika who is listening to Mrs. Suisho and writing down notes)

(lunch break; Noelle and Tsuta are talking)

Noelle: I wonder what Mika is doing here.

Tsuta: (pops some food into her mouth) Yeah. I mean, that rich brat has everything.

Noelle: Tsuta!

Tsuta: (swallowing) Sorry. It just slipped out. (Noelle gets up and walks over to Mika who is eating alone. She takes a seat beside her)

Noelle: Hey, Mika! Mind if I sit next to you? (Mika shakes her head. Noelle sits down) So what brings you to our part of the town?

Mika: If you don’t mind, I really don’t wish to talk about it. (she puts down her chopsticks, gets up, picking up her trash, and starts to leave. Tsuta walks over to join them. Suddenly, Mika leans over in pain. She drops her trash onto the floor) (quietly) Ow.

Noelle: (runs over to her) Mika! Are you ok?

Mika: (slowly gets up) I’m fine. I just hurt my back last night. (she leans over to pick up her trash. Noelle does the same)

Noelle: I can get this for you, Mika.

Mika: Hmmm? (she watches as Noelle picks up the trash. Mika gives a little smile)

(walking home from school)

Noelle: That was a long day. You know, you didn’t have to wait for me after detention.

Mika: I didn’t mind. Though I don’t know why you had to punch that guy.

Noelle: Kanshin is always being a pain. It just serves him right! (both girls smile)

Mika: I really appreciate what you did for me today.

Noelle: Oh, it’s no big deal.

Mika: For you it may have not been a big deal, but for me it was. I don’t have any friends, most people just make fun of me or ignore me. You are very kind, Noelle.

Noelle: I don’t get that very often. (both girls giggle) Hey, why don’t you come over to my house?

Mika: (nods head) I would like that. Sure! (Noelle and Mika take off)

Tsuta: (from behind) You usually invite me. (kicks a stone on the ground. The stone bounces into the road. Tsuta suddenly pauses as she hears the sound of a flute in the background) Hmmm? (Tsuta curiously follows the sound)

(Daraku’s hidden cabin in the woods. Tsuta looks up to see him on the roof playing a flute. Tsuta watches and listens for a moment from behind a tree. Daraku, sensing someone is watching him, stops playing)

Daraku: Who’s there? (Tsuta ducks behind the tree. She watches Daraku jump off the roof landing safely on the ground. He walks over to the tree) Who’s out there?

Tsuta: (coming out from behind the tree) I’m sorry, Daraku. I didn’t mean to startle you. I was just listening to your flute. You’re very good.

Daraku: It helps calm me. I don’t play it to please other people.

Tsuta: Well you should. It’s very relaxing and calming. (Daraku turns around and starts walking back to the cabin) Wait. (Daraku turns around) Do you…do you think you could play a little more? (Daraku looks down at his flute)

Daraku: (looking up at Tsuta) I have more important things to do and I do not want to be bothered. (he walks into the cabin and slams the door. Tsuta stands there for a moment, turns around, and leaves, a bit miffed)

(Noelle’s cabin)

Mika: I can’t believe you have horses! (Mika leans over and starts petting Orange who is lying down. Spirey tries to pet Orange with his feelers)

Noelle: That’s Stardust over there and this one here is Orange.

Mika: Orange? That’s a pretty unusual name for a horse. (continues petting Orange)

Noelle: Mika, can I ask you another question about your ring?

Mika: (turns around) Yeah, sure. You seem to be very interested in it. (Noelle holds out her watch. Mika looks at it, shocked) It’s the same symbol!!! Where did you get that?

Noelle: Um..well…I found it on the beach. After you left….(Mika looks at the watch and then at the ring again. Noelle opens up her ring and notices a strange gem, half of it is red, the other half orange. Noelle closes up her watch again)

Mika: It’s probably just a coincidence. (she starts petting Orange again, but slower this time)

Noelle: I don’t believe in coincidences. (Mika stops petting and looks up at Noelle surprised. Spirey also looks up, alarmed)

Mika: What do you mean?

Noelle: Mika, can you keep a secret? (Mika nods her head. Noelle pulls out her locket and two rings)

Mika: What’s this?

Spirey: (looking up) Koochee??

Noelle: You know that unicorn girl that’s been on the news? (Mika nods her head) I’m that girl.

Mika: (really shocked) What!!??

Noelle: Back away, Mika. (Noelle puts on her locket and rings. Mika watches, amazed. Standing before her are now Nova and her two Butterjewels)

Mika: Noelle??

Nova: It’s Nova. I’m a princess from the Twilight Star sent to Earth to defeat Dark Star. (spins around) What do you think? I picked out this outfit myself. My first outfit was just too lame! Mika: (walks over to her) I can’t believe it.

Spirey: (on Mika’s shoulder) (happy) Koochee!

Mika: Is your watch…is that something from…wherever you said you were from?

Nova: Yes. That’s why I’m curious that your ring has the same symbol. (Mika looks at her ring) There has to be some connection.

Mika: Are you sure, Noelle? It was my mother’s. Maybe there’s a connection with her.

Nova: Maybe, but I doubt it. And don’t call me Noelle. It’s Nova. You are the only one that knows this, Mika, so you have to keep it a secret.

Mika: (nods her head) I promise I will.

Spirey: (also nods his head and crosses his feelers) (agreeing) Koochee!

Nova: Thanks.

Voice from behind: Since you are transformed, I guess that means you’re ready to fight.

Nova: (turning around) Dark Star!

Dark Star: (looks at cabin) I see you haven’t fixed it yet.

Nova: (teardrop) I’ve been busy with schoolwork…

Dark Star: It’s too small to fight in here. We’d only kill both of ourselves. Come on out! (Nova and Mika just stand there) Well?

Nova: If we come out, that means I have to battle you. But if we stay in here, there’s no battle and no harm done. Can’t you see I have company?

Dark Star: (looking at Mika) Fine then. I’ll just blow both of you up in here…

Nova: (standing up) See, Mika? It’s very easy to confuse your enemies. (both girls walk past Dark Star who stands there, shocked)

Dark Star: (turning around) Where do you think you’re going?

Nova: To battle you, of coarse. (Stardust comes running out of the cabin and stabs Dark Star from behind with her unicorn. Dark Star jumps in pain. Orange comes out to join Stardust. Dark Star lands on the ground) You know, you’re very slow.

Dark Star: I may be slow, but my newly trained Firewidows will be much faster. Armor Duet! (Two Firewidows come out. Nova stands there with Stardust and Orange by her side. Mika is watching from a distance)

Nova: Three against three. Shall we begin?

Dark Star: (smirks) Sure, go ahead.

Nova: Stardust, Orange! Attack Power! (Their attacks hit the Armor Duets. The Firewidows just stand there as if nothing happened) (mutters) Shoot!

Dark Star: They are very strong. They can withstand that attack.

Nova: But that’s my only one! Besides Healing Power!

Dark Star: Too bad. Armor Duet, Flame Attack! (The attack hits Nova and her Butterjewels. The three try to withstand the attack, but they all end up falling down, badly hurt) Yes, too bad, Nova.

Mika: (standing up) Leave them alone! (Dark Star, startled, turns around)

Dark Star: Excuse me!?

Nova: Mika, stay out of this! You don’t know what you are getting yourself into!

Mika: I don’t care. I won’t let you kill Nova. You’ll have to kill me first.

Dark Star: For a girl with no powers and no intelligence, you sure have a lot of guts. This should be a piece of cake.

Nova: (crying) Mika, NOOOOO! (Dark Star makes his way towards Mika. Nova slowly gets up along with her Butterjewels. She holds one of her arms which was injured from the last attack. Looking up at Dark Star’s Armor Duet, she tries to attack again) (painfully) Attack Power! (Nova’s watch starts to glow. Mika’s ring on her necklace suddenly floats in the air. It is glowing as well. Mika is looking upwards; her eyes are closed)

Dark Star: What’s going on? (turns around to see Nova. She lets out the Attack Power. It hits the Armor Duets who cry out in pain) What!? But how can that be? (The attack is over. The two Firewidows grunt painfully, kneeling downwards; but they are not completely defeated. Nova looks up, her eyes half closed. She starts to pass out. Tsuki catches her and carefully places her by her Butterjewels who are also lying down) (grunts) Tsuki.

Tsuki: I can finish you off right here and right now. Is that what you want, Dark Star?

Dark Star: I wish Nova’s mother did not send you here, too. You guys are such a nuisance!

Tsuki: I’ll take that as a compliment.

Dark Star: You know I’ll be back. (Dark Star and the Firewidows disappear)

Tsuki: (to her Unijewel) Too bad. We were all ready to fight, too. (grins at her Unijewel)

(Tsuki’s Unijewel is healing Nova. Nova slowly opens her eyes)

Nova: Tsuki? Where did you come from? What happened?

Tsuki: The Firewidows’ protective armor was broken. My Unijewel and I were ready to fight, but chicken Dark Star took off. How did you do that, Nova?

Nova: (sits up with her hand on her head) I don’t remember. I don’t remember anything of what happened. (Nova looks up to see Mika sprawled on the ground) Mika! (Nova runs up to her, Tsuki behind. Nova leans over Mika and shakes her a bit.) Mika! Mika! Are you all right?

Tsuki: (to her Unijewel) Healing Power. (Her Unijewel starts healing Mika) Nova, what is she doing here?

Nova: Mika is one of us, Tsuki. I know she is.

Tsuki: (looking up at Nova) Can she transform?

Nova: (nods her head) No. But she has a ring with the same symbol as my watch…

Tsuki: (getting up) If she can’t transform, she is not one of us.

Mika: (slowly opening her eyes) What…what’s going on? (Tsuki looks down at her)

Tsuki: If anyone finds out about us…(Tsuki glares at Nova)…we’ll be in big trouble, and it will all be your fault, Nova. (Tsuki and her Unijewel leave)

Mika: (turning to Nova) Nova…what happened?

Nova: I don’t know. I can’t remember anything.

Mika: Who was that girl? She seemed pretty upset.

Nova: That’s Tsuki, my fighting partner. She gets that way sometimes. But this time, I have to disagree with her. There’s something about you, Mika. You have to be from one of the stars. (Mika stares at her blankly for a moment) Well, I should probably be getting home before my grandmother blows up. Do you want to come over?

Mika: (smiling) Sure!

(upstairs in Noelle’s room)

Mika: Wow! I like your room!

Noelle: It’s not much.

Mika: It’s a lot better than the one I have now. What’s this? (opens jewelry box)

Noelle: Those are my rings. I can use a different one each month. That is how I get my Butterjewels.

Mika: Oh, wow! (moment of silence) You know, you are very lucky, Noelle.

Noelle: Thanks, Mika. It was tough in the beginning fighting Dark Star. Tsuki and this strange guy had to help me out a lot. I think I’m getting the hand of it now. Still got to work on my techniques, though…(notices Mika is asleep) (smiling) Good-night, Mika.

Noelle: (getting up) Mika? (Mika is gone) Hmmm. Guess she went home already.

(Mika looking up at a trashy apartment)

Voice from one of the apartment: Mika! Mika!!! Where is that insolent girl? When I get my hands on her…. (Mika looks up, nervously)
