(Note:  things in italics are memories)

Two girls, about 10 years-old, are playing around a railroad track.  While playing, Katana Ishida’s foot suddenly gets stuck in one of the rungs.  Cara Sayuki quickly comes to the rescue to pull her foot out.  While trying to get Katana’s foot free, they can hear the whistle of a train up ahead.  Panicking, Cara starts pulling Katana’s foot more aggressively.  As the train approaches, Cara manages to pull Katana’s foot free.  The two girls quickly stumble and fall off of the track just as the train rolls by.  Cara’s eyes grow big with fear as she stares at the rapidly passing train.  Katana looks up at Cara.

Cara:  Katana, are you ok?

Katana:  Yes, I’m fine.  Thank-you, Cara.  (slight pause)  Um, Cara?  (longer pause)  There is something I got to tell you.

Cara:  Hmmm?

New scene, Katana is in a train, waving.

Katana:  I’m moving, Cara.

Cara:  (running)  Katana, wait!  (runs alongside the train)

Katana:  (raises ring finger to show ring)  As long as we wear our friendship rings, we’ll find each other again someday!

(The train is moving too fast now and Cara stops running.)

Cara:  (yelling)  Katana!!!!!!!!

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!!!  (Cara turns over and slams her alarm off)

It’s been 10 years since Katana left.  Cara’s apartment is cluttered with clothes and trash all over the floor, on her dresser and her furniture, etc.  Cara gets out of bed.  She walks past her dresser which has a picture of herself and Katana.

(walking to work)

Takeo Matoke:  (waves) Good-morning, Cara!

Cara:  Takeo!  (she runs up and hugs him)

Takeo:  So how’s my Cara doing on this lovely day?

Cara:  I’m doing fine.  Is the car ready?

Takeo:  It’s still in the shop, but it’s suppose to be ready tomorrow.  Then this weekend, you and I can finally go on our big trip to Tokyo!

Cara:  Yah, yah!  I can’t wait!  (hugs Takeo again.  As she does this, she notices a strange woman walking by.  On the woman’s ring finger is Cara and Katana’s friendship ring.  Cara pauses in shock)

Takeo:  Cara, are you all right?  (Cara pulls away from him and runs a little bit to catch up to the woman, but the woman has disappeared)  Cara?

Cara:  (not turning around)  I thought I saw someone…

Takeo:  Hmmm?

Cara:  (turns around, smiling) Well, we’d better get to work if we want to afford our trip to Tokyo.  (gives Takeo a quick peck on the cheek)  See you later, Takeo!  (she takes off.  Takeo stands there, a bit surprised)

****************************************************************

Cara starts heading to her office

Kinzo Enoki:  Ms. Sayuki!  I am so glad I caught you!  I’m writing this article and I think you should read it…

Cara:  (interrupting)  I’ll read it later, Kinzo.  I’ve got some things I have to finish up first.  (closes door to office.  She starts typing an article on her computer)  Hmmmm….(she then starts looking through papers on her desk to decide what to write next.  Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, she sees the woman she saw before outside her window.  Cara immediately stops everything she is doing and looks out the window to see that the woman is gone again)

(thoughts)  Could that really be…(long pause)  Katana?

(Cara comes running out of her office to talk to her boss)

Cara:  Mr. Toshi!

Mr. Toshi:  (looking up) Ms. Sayuki?

Cara:  Mr. Toshi, I found her!

Mr. Toshi:  You found her?  You mean you found your lost friend…Katana?

Cara:  Yes!  And you promised that if I found her, I could leave work early.  (leans across desk)  Puhlease????  I swear to you that I’ll have the articles done by tomorrow!

Mr. Toshi:  Are you sure it’s really her?

Cara:  (excitedly)  Yes, I’m sure, sir!

Mr. Toshi:  (thinking to himself)  I guess you can go.  I did promise that.  Just make sure I have those articles by tomorrow morning.  We still have deadlines, you know.

Cara:  (politely bows)  Oh, thank-you!  Thank-you, Mr. Toshi!  (takes off)

Mr. Toshi:  Hmm.-

Kinzo:  Mr. Toshi?

Mr. Toshi:  What is it, Mr. Enoki?  You are not going to get up and leave, too, are you?

Kinzo:  (embarrassedly puts hand behind back)  Oh, no!  You see, I was writing this article for next weeks paper.  I think you should have a look at it.  (hands Mr. Toshi the article)

Mr. Toshi:  Let me see.  (Mr. Toshi takes the article and reads through it)  Hmmmm….WHAT!?  (Kinzo nods his head)

**********************************************************************************

(Cara starts running throughout the city trying to find a trace of the woman she thinks is Katana.  She goes into shops, asking people along the way if anyone had seen her.  No luck.  Cara finally decides to take a break and have some tea)

Cara:  (to the waitress)  Some green tea, please.

Waitress:  Yes, I’ll have it to you shortly, ma’am.  (leaves)  (Cara picks up her cell phone and dials Takeo’s number)

Takeo:  (at his office)  Compotech, this is Takeo Matoke speaking.

Cara:  (at the restaurant)  Takeo!  You won’t believe who I saw!

Takeo:  (at his office)  Who?  Wait…you found Katana???

Cara:  (on the other line)  Well, I’m still looking for her, but I know I saw her.

Takeo:  Are you sure it was her, Cara?

Cara:  (at the restaurant)  Yes, I’m sure!  I’m sure the woman I saw was Katana!  She had on our friendship ring!

Takeo:  (at his office)  And how many people have that same ring?  (pauses for a sec.)  Look, Cara, not to be rude, but you should go back to work.  It’s a big city, and if she really is here, you can look for her tonight.  I’ll even help you… (back at the restaurant) (Cara looks up and suddenly sees the woman again)

Cara:  (interrupting)  Thanks, Takeo, but I got to go.  I see her again.  Love you!  (hangs up phone before Takeo can say anymore.  Takeo hangs up his phone, a bit confused)  (Cara quickly gets up and dashes out the door)

Waitress:  (comes in with tea)  Hey, wait!  Come back here, young lady!  You didn’t even pay!

************************************************************

(Cara is running down the sidewalk, not trying to lose the woman again.  Finally, she approaches toward her)

Cara:  Katana!  (the woman turns around, a bit surprised.  Cara stops)

Woman:  Cara?  (squints)  Is that really you?

Cara:  Katana!  I can’t believe I finally found you!  (the two hug)

Katana:  I was hoping that if I came back, I would find you again.  I even made sure I was wearing my ring (holds up hand)

Cara:  I still have mine too (holds up her hand.  The two smile at each other)  I can’t believe we finally found each other, after all these years!  (Katana gives a friendly smile)  But, Katana…where have you been?  Why didn’t you ever respond to any of my letters?

Katana:  (embarrassedly puts hand behind back)  I guess I was just busy…hey, where are you living?

Cara:  (points)  I have an apartment a few blocks over.

Katana:  (smiling)  Then lets go have some tea at your place and get reacquainted!  (pauses)…wait…are you working, Cara?

Cara:  No. Mr. Toshi gave me the day off.  Let’s go, Katana!  (the two make their way to Cara’s apartment)

********************************************************

(Katana’s face drops when she sees Cara’s messy apartment)

Cara:  (embarrassedly)  I…uh…haven’t cleaned it up in awhile…

Katana:  (thinking)  Hmmm…(turns to Cara, smiling)  I can do the cleaning for you, Cara.

Cara:  No, I can’t have you do that!  You’re my guest!  (looks at mess again)  I’ll do the cleaning.  (starts to pick up some dirty clothes that are lying about.  Katana starts picking up some clothes, too)

Katana:  No, Cara.  Let me do it.  It’s the least I can do.  (suddenly sits up)  I have an idea!  How about you go back to work, and when you get back, I’ll have this apartment spotless!

Cara:  Katana…

Katana:  (smiling as she pushes Cara out)  Don’t worry about me.  We can talk more later.  (shoves Cara out of the apartment)  Bye bye now!  (closes door.  Cara stares at it, a bit confused)

****************************************************************

It’s late.  Cara is still in her office working on some articles

Mr. Toshi:  (knocks on Cara’s door)  Ms. Sayuki?  (opens the door)  I thought you left for the day to go see your friend

Cara:  Katana said that she didn’t mind if I went back to work, and I know I had a lot of articles to finish.  I’ve done three already (points to the articles).

Mr. Toshi:  Um…that’s great, Ms. Sayuki, but I would really like it if you would take the rest of this week off.  You’ve been working so hard, you need to rest.

Cara:  (smiling)  Thanks, but I want to work.  Now that I have finally found Katana, I feel like a hole inside of me has been filled.  I feel like I could do anything…(looks at articles)  These are some of my best writings ever.  Take a look, Mr. Toshi.  (hands him an article)

Mr. Toshi:  (reading the article)  I’m impressed, Ms. Sayuki.  This is very good work…not that your work was bad before…(stumbles)...I mean…

Cara:  I think I know what you mean, Mr. Toshi.  (Mr. Toshi hands back the article)

Mr. Toshi:  Well, I’m going to call it a night for me.  Oh, by the way, Ms. Sayuki.  Mr. Enoki has also written a very interesting article for next week’s issue.  I really think you should take a look at it.

Cara:  Maybe I will tomorrow.  Good-night, Mr. Toshi!

Mr. Toshi:  Good-night, Ms. Sayuki.  (he leaves)

*****************************************************

Cara is walking home from work when she runs into Takeo

Cara:  (smiling)  Takeo!

Takeo:  Hi, Cara.

Cara:  Guess what!?  I found her!

Takeo:  (surprised)  You found her!?  You found Katana!?

Cara:  Yup!  Katana is back at my apartment.  She wanted to clean it up.

Takeo:   I can’t blame her.

Cara:  (annoyed)  Takeo!

Takeo:  I’m sorry Cara.  (chuckles)  Hey, why don’t you ask Katana if she’ll join us on our trip to Tokyo?

Cara:  That would be great!  She would love it!

Takeo:  Great!  I can go buy an extra ticket for her tomorrow.

Cara:  (confused)  Extra ticket?

Takeo:  Oh, didn’t I tell you?  (Cara shakes her head)  I found out that my car is going to be in the shop longer than I thought.  If we’re going to Tokyo this weekend, then we’ll have to go by train.  I bought two tickets on my way home from work.  (holds out the tickets.  Notices that Cara is looking down)  Is something wrong?

Cara:  (looking down; coldly)  A train took away my best friend…(looks up at him with tears in her eyes)  and you want us to go to Tokyo by train?  How could you do that, Takeo!?  (takes off, crying)

Takeo:  Cara, wait!  (sighs with disappointment)

*****************************************************************************

Cara, who is still annoyed with Takeo, opens up the door to her apartment.  Her mouth drops open when she sees how clean it is.  All of the clothes were picked up, the vacuuming was done, and the furniture was polished.  Everything in the room seems to sparkle.  Cara sniffs the air.  She can smell something delicious.   Katana pops out from the kitchen)

Katana:  Welcome back, Cara!  Dinner is almost ready!

Cara:  Wow, Katana!  You did a great job!  You know, you didn’t have to do this…

Katana:  (smiling)  It was no problem. (they here a ‘ding’ in the background)  Up, it most be done!

(Cara stares at all of the food Katana cooked)

Cara:  You made all of this Katana!?

Katana:  Yup!  (she sits down next to Cara.  Cara is about to dig in when she notices that Katana doesn’t have any chopsticks)

Cara:  Aren’t you going to eat?

Katana:  (blushes)  Well, actually, I got kind of hungry, so I…already ate…

Cara:  (smiling)  That’s ok!  I understand, Katana.

Katana:  Thanks, Cara.  You haven’t changed at all.  You’re still a great friend.

Cara:  Thanks.  You haven’t changed either, Katana.  (Katana smiles)  Um, Katana?  Can I ask you a couple of questions?

Katana:  Sure!  What?

Cara:  (eating a noodle)  Well, first of all, what have you been up to?  I mean, it’s been ten years since we last saw each other…  (there’s a ding from the oven)

Katana:  Oh, that must be the cookies.  (gets up)

Cara:  Cookies?

Katana:  Yup!  I baked some chocolate chip cookies for dessert.  I waited until you came home for that!  (thinking to herself)  Though I did lick the bowl without you…  (both girls giggle)

**********************************************************

Katana and Cara are getting ready for bed

Cara:  (puts some blankets on the couch)  I can sleep in the couch and you can take my bed.

Katana:  (shakes head)  That’s ok.  I’ll take the couch.  I don’t mind.  (hops onto couch)

Cara:  Are you sure?

Katana:  (smiling)  It’s comfortable.  (Cara nods her head.  There’s a knock at the door)

Cara:  Be right back, Katana.  (calls out)  Coming!  (opens the door to see Takeo)  Takeo?

Takeo:  Hello, Cara.  Sorry to bother you…

Cara:  I’m sorry I took off like that, Takeo.  Come in!  (Takeo comes in)  You have to meet Katana.  (yells out)  Katana!

Takeo:  I returned the tickets, Cara.  My car should be ready next weekend, so we can go to Tokyo then.  Will your boss mind if you work next week and skip the week after?

Cara:  That shouldn’t be a problem.  I’ll tell him tomorrow.  (yells again)  Katana!  (no response)  Hmmm….where is she?  Let me go see if I can find her, Takeo.  Make yourself comfortable.  (Cara takes off, searching through her apartment.  She can’t find Katana anywhere.  She comes back to Takeo)  I guess she left…or something.

Takeo:  (smiles)  That’s all right, Cara.  I can meet her later.  (gets up)  I’d better get back home.  (sighs and rolls eyes)  Got another long day of work tomorrow.  Good-night, Cara.  (they kiss.  Takeo leaves)

Cara:  Bye, Takeo!  (turns around to see Katana)  Katana!?

Katana:  I’m sorry about that.  I accidentally fell asleep in the laundry room.

Cara:  In the laundry room????

Katana:  I was looking around and wanted to see what was in there, and then I just fell asleep.  (smiles)  I guess I’m more tired than I thought.  (Katana lies down on the couch)  good-night, Cara.

Cara:  (still a little confused)  Uh, good-night, Katana.  (Cara walks back to her room.  She looks at the picture of herself and Katana when they were kids.  Then she climbs into bed and falls asleep)

**********************************************************************

The next couple of days go by quickly.  Cara goes out with Katana on her lunch breaks.  Kinzo has been unfortunate in having Cara read his article.  Cara seems more happier now that she has found Katana.

It’s been five days now since Cara found Katana.

(At Cara’s apartment)

Cara:  (picks up bag)  Well, I’m off to work again.

Katana:  (smiling)  Good luck, Cara.  (Katana starts sweeping the floors.  Cara is about to leave, but turns around)

Cara:  Katana?  Um…(Katana stops sweeping)  Well, not to be rude, but…how long are you going to be staying?  (blushes)  I mean, I don’t mind you here and all, but…what about your family and where you were staying before…?

Katana:  Don’t you want me here?

Cara:  (blushes again)  Oh, I didn’t mean that, Katana!  Of coarse I want you here!

Katana:  Good!  (starts sweeping the floor again. Cara quietly leaves)

**************************************************

Walking to work with Takeo

Takeo:  So how’s my Cara doing this morning?

Cara:  (quietly)  Ok.

Takeo:  Good!  Well, I hope you’re ready for our trip this weekend.  I just picked up my car from the shop yesterday.  Will Katana be joining us?  (Cara doesn’t answer.  She seems a bit worried)  Is something wrong?

Cara:  I think something is wrong with Katana.

Takeo:  What do you mean?  Is she sick?

Cara:  No…at least, I don’t think so.

Takeo:  Then what’s wrong?

Cara:  (stops walking)  I mean…I’ve been looking for her for ten years.  I wrote so many letters to her I lost count.  Then, just a few days ago, she just shows up….and it’s as if…nothing’s happened.  Like everything’s back to normal.

Takeo:  Did you ask her what happened?

Cara:  Yes, but she seems to avoid the topic.  I’m glad she’s back and all, but…I feel like she’s keeping something from me.

Takeo:  Hmmm….well, I’d just keep asking her until she answers you, Cara.  That is the only way you are ever going to find out anything.

Cara:  (smiles)  Thanks, Takeo.

Takeo:  (smiles back)  Anytime, Cara.

********************************************************

at work.  Cara comes running in

Kinzo:  Cara!  (tries to step in front of her)  I really need to talk to you.

Cara:  Not now, Kinzo.  I have a lot of work to finish up.

Kinzo:  (annoyed)  Cara!  I’ve been trying to get your attention for the past few days!  I really need you to read this!

Cara:  (turns around)  You’re right, Kinzo.  I’m sorry.  (takes article from Kinzo)  I’ll put this on my desk and read it after my interviews.

Kinzo:  Thank-you, Cara!  (he leaves)

***************************************************

it’s later in the day.  Cara comes back to the office

Cara:  Takeo!?  What are you doing here?

Takeo:  I got off work early, so I thought I would walk you home tonight.  Maybe I could meet Katana.

Cara:  Oh, that would be great, Takeo!  I have to read Kinzo’s article before I go, though.  It should only take a few minutes.

Takeo:  Don’t mind at all!

(in Cara’s office, Katana is reading Kinzo’s article.  When the hears the door open, she quickly crumples it up and throws it in the waste basket)

Cara:  Katana!?  You’re here, too???

Katana:  (smiling nervously)  I thought I would walk home with you, tonight.

Cara:  Well, sure.  Takeo will be joining us, too.  (picks up an article off of the desk)  But first I have to read Kinzo’s article.  (Cara starts reading the article)

(from outside the office.  Takeo is peering in from the window)

Takeo:  Hmmm?  Who is Cara talking to?

Kinzo:  That’s probably her friend, Katana.

Takeo:  (looks back)  That’s Katana?

(inside the office)

Cara:  Hmmmm

Katana:  (nervously)  Is something wrong?

Cara:  No…I just don’t understand…why Kinzo has kept bugging me on reading his article on shampoo.  It’s good…but I don’t see the big deal…(Cara picks up her bag)  Well, let’s get going, Katana.  (Cara leaves her office)

Kinzo:  (nervously)  Did you read the article?

Cara:  Yes.  (hands Kinzo back the article)

Kinzo:  So…

Cara:  So what?

Kinzo:  (quiet for a moment)  Um…what did you think?

Cara:  Well, it was good, Kinzo.

Kinzo:  (a bit surprised)  It was good?

Cara:  Yeah.  I liked it…why do you seem so surprised?

Takeo:  I read the article, too, Cara.  I’m just…didn’t think you would like it.  (Cara looks real confused)

Cara:  (smiling)  Guys can be so weird!

Takeo:  Why don’t we talk more about this on our way back.

Cara:  Sure.  Let me go get, Katana.  (turns around to see Katana gone)  Where is she?

Takeo:  Cara?

Cara:  She must have gone out already.  (starts to head out the door, but Takeo stops her)  Takeo?

Takeo:  Don’t go, Cara.

Cara:  (annoyed)  Excuse me?

Takeo:  I really need to talk to you…about Katana...

Cara:  How rude of you, Takeo!  Katana is outside waiting for me, but you would rather talk about her behind her back!  (steps past Takeo)  You can walk home by yourself!  I don’t want to walk with a person who’s jealous just because I have another friend!  (leaves angrily)

Kinzo:  (looks at article)  Aaah!  This isn’t the right article!  Cara, wait!

****************************************

(outside the office.  Cara meets up with Katana)

Cara:  Sorry about the wait, Katana.

Katana:  It’s no problem.  Hey, how about we go get some ice cream on our way back?

Cara:  (smiling)  Sounds good!

****************************************************************

(at the ice cream place.  Katana is mixing up her ice cream, but not really eating it.  Cara takes a scoopful of her sundae)

Cara:  Mmmm!  This is great!  (she eats another bite)  Aren’t you going to eat yours?

Katana:  Actually, I’m not too hungry for ice cream right now.  (Cara slams her spoon down on the table)  Is something wrong, Cara?

Cara:  Yes, something is wrong.  Katana…(looks at ice cream)  It seems that every time I ask you about what happened during those ten years, you seem to avoid the subject.

Katana:  What do you mean?

Cara:  What happened, Katana?  Where have you been?  Why haven’t you replied to any of my letters?  What happened?

Katana:  (quietly)  It’s a long story.

Cara:  (calmly)  I’d like to hear it.

Katana:  But I don’t want to tell it.

Cara:  Why not?

Katana:  You don’t want to know where I have been.  Trust me.  You don’t want to know.

Cara:  I do want to know, Katana.  We’re best friends, right?  Best friends don’t keep secrets from each other!

Katana:  But this a secret that would hurt you, Cara.  It’s a secret that would hurt me.  We’re finally back together, so there’s nothing to worry about anymore.

Cara:  (sighs)  Well, you’re obviously not going to tell me…I guess we can talk about this later.  (searches through her bag to pull out some money)  Hmmm?  (she pulls out some cash which she puts on the table)  My keys…I must have left them back at the office!  (gets up)  I’ll meet you back at my apartment.  (pointing to money)  That should cover it.  (takes off)

****************************************

in her office searching for her keys

Cara:  (upset)  Where are they???  (she looks on top of her desk.  then she tries looking under her desk.  Then she tries looking to the side of her desk, accidentally knocking the waste basket over.  She finally finds her keys)  (excitedly)  Got them!  (she gets up and pulls the waste basket upward.  She picks up a crumpled piece of paper that had fallen out.  she’s about to throw it away, but changes her mind)  Hmmm, wonder what this is?  (she unravels the crumpled paper, which is Kinzo’s original article.  She reads through it)  No.  (pauses.  Her eyes get big)  No!  It can’t be!  (she takes off)

***********************************

running back to her apartment  (note:  things in italics are memories)

Cara:  (thoughts)  It can’t be!  (Cara and Katana are holding hands, laughing)  Katana!

Cara:  You can’t catch me, Katana!

Cara:  Please tell me it’s not true!  (Cara and Katana are giggling)

*********************************************

at Cara’s apartment.  Takeo is standing by her door.

Takeo:  Cara!  (he walks up to her, but Cara hold her hand up.  She is looking down and not making eye contact)

Cara:  Do you mind if I speak to Katana alone?

Takeo:  No, Cara.  (steps to the side)  I’ll be right outside if you need anything.  (Cara opens the door, steps in, and closes the door)

Katana:  (comes running out from the kitchen)  You’re back, Cara!  I hope you’re ready for a nice snack, it’s almost done!  (notices Cara is looking down)  What’s wrong.

Cara:  (clenching article)  (quietly)  Why didn’t you tell me.

Katana:  Tell you what?

Cara:  (looking up at Katana while trying to hold back her tears)  The truth!  Why didn’t you tell me the truth!

Katana:  (looking away)  (quietly)  You were so happy, Cara…

Cara:  You can’t catch me Katana!  (Katana chases her.  They laugh happily)

Katana:  I didn’t want to see you so upset…

(the two girls continue their game of tag around the railroad tracks.  Suddenly, Katana’s foot gets stuck in one of the rungs.  Cara, who’s laughter suddenly turns into fear, comes running to Katana to pull her foot out.  A train whistle blows from the distance.  Cara panicky struggles to pull Katana’s foot out.  The train is approaching the girls at high speed)

Cara:  Katana!!!!!!!!  (Katana, crying, bends down cover her ears)

Katana:  You're mind created it's own memories of what happened and blocked the truth.  (Cara is still looking downwards.  A few tears fall onto the carpet)  I was afraid you would forget me.  All of those letters you wrote, since I didn’t really move, you didn’t know my address.  You’re mother kept them in a box (picks up a box of letters and puts them on the couch)  She didn’t want you to know the truth because she knew how much it would hurt…(Cara picks up an envelope.  The notices that her return address is on it and a stamp, but Katana’s address is not there)  I’m so sorry, Cara.  I didn’t want you to go through this…(Cara finally breaks down.  She falls onto her knees and squeezes a pillow.  Takeo hears her crying and comes running in)

Takeo:  Cara!  (he puts his arm around her.  Cara continues crying)  It’s ok, Cara.  It’s ok.  (Katana watches from the background.  She then disappears)

************************************************

(It’s morning.  Cara wakes up to find that she’s on the couch with a couple of blankets.  She sniffs the air to smell something cooking)

Takeo:  (wearing an apron and chief’s hat)  Good-morning, Cara!

Cara:  Takeo?  You stayed the night?

Takeo:  I couldn’t just leave you.  That wouldn’t make me a good boyfriend.  (smiles at her)  I thought we could have a nice hearty breakfast before our trip to Tokyo.

Cara:  Tokyo?  We’re going today?

Takeo:  I thought it would be nice to get your mind off things.  I called your boss this morning and he said he didn’t mind at all.  So…why don’t you get your things packed up?  Breakfast will be served in a few minutes.  (Cara smiles.  She gets up and quickly runs into her room.  She pulls out her suitcase and starts putting clothes in it.  While doing so, she looks up at the picture of her and Katana.  She looks at it curiosly.  She puts down the clothes she was carrying and walks up to the picture.  Hanging on the side of the frame is Katana’s friendship ring.  Cara looks at her own ring, and smiles.)  Some things will never be forgotten, Katana.

Epilogue:

Cara and Takeo finally make their trip to Tokyo.  They enjoy the sites and sounds and have a wonderful time.  In front of Tokyo tower (which is still standing  ^~), Takeo proposes to Cara.  Cara buys some flowers.  When they return home, Cara and Takeo go to Katana’s grave.  Cara puts the flowers down and says a prayer.  Cara and Takeo continue working.  They get married.  Then they move into a new apartment  A couple of years pass.  Cara and Takeo have a baby girl.  Cara puts her daughter into her crib.  She leaves the room.  The baby falls asleep.  Above the baby’s head, is a cross-stitch:  Katana Matoke
