Ok, now its on me to write something about myself. I think, in the last 26 years I’ve had the opportunity of many different and amazing experiences: studying at university, several internships in foreign countries and in Germany, a wonderful and exciting hobby, good holiday-trips….. . Thank you very much to my family and friends who made this eventful time possible; I really appreciate this.
Especially to live in a foreign country is a
wonderful experience that lasts for a lifetime. Besides the language I have the
chance to learn many different things, in particular how to interact with
people, that becomes more and more important. But living in a foreign country
also means hard work. It needs a long time to establish yourself in a new
environment. I never could enjoy life before this step had been done.
As well as the internships, that I undertook
mainly for professional reasons, I think I have one of the most beautiful and
amazing hobbies: paragliding. Unfortunately I can’t spend much time in flying
with the birds, but the week-ends I flew with my friend Dieter from Germany or
Christian from Switzerland near the clouds are unforgettable. The most
impressive is this simple way of flying- the gear doesn’t weigh more than 20kg.
It is still a miracle for me that I can awake this “plastic bag” with only some
downhill steps and I am always speechless when I begin ascending above the
ground.
In Autumn 1999 I finished my theoretical
courses at the University of Stuttgart leaving only my diploma-thesis in
Environmental Engineering to complete my studies.
October 1999 to March 2000: Internship in
Australia at the Center for Water Research of the University of Western
Australia in Perth. The results of my research can be found under “reports”.
In April 2000, after my return to Europe, I
will finish my studies in the Swiss Canton of Neuchâtel with my diploma thesis.
Subject of my work in Switzerland will the problems occurring with the washing
down of tunnels. This thesis will be undertaken in cooperation with the
environmental authorities in the Swiss- canton of Neuchâtel. Prof. Metzger,
chair of hydrobiology and hydrochemistry, will supervise my work in
Switzerland.
The “Ruhrgebiet” in the middle of Germany. The landscape
in this region has been seriously damaged by industrialisation. Industrial
activities in this region has stopped a few decades ago, and today the
ecosystem is gradually recovering in these former production sites. The “IBA
Emscherpark” is an outdoor exhibition that informs the visitors about the ecological processes
occuring in this area.
