But, He Can Dream
He smiles
and kids around with her
about the love that can never be
All the while
thinking of
another’s reality.
Standing outside of the dream
He can take his imagination to the extreme
He imagines the happiness
Just outside of all this emptiness
He imagines her kiss
Her warm and caring lips
wrapped in tenderness
He knows
It will never get any better
than this
In his reality the dream
is such a fragile thing
sometimes accompanied
by an unplanned awakening
What’s begun today
may seem right
until it’s gone
with the morning light
He knows,
They are both married in real life
So, he knows
she can never be his wife
he has
just the dream
he comes to
to make everything alright
Every once in awhile
Or when he needs to smile
He thinks she may be his
in time
But, he knows in reality
She can never be
anymore than the dream
and any chance of romance
at anytime
can only be
in his mind. . .
