Past and Future Sense

It’s all around us
in the water and in our seas
up above us
in the air we breath
It’s in the dirt
Deep down underneath

Congress has promised a solution
But,
Their rhetoric is just another form
of pollution
Oh, they will recycle
But, if it’s not cost effective
They will stop in search of another elective
They may tighten restrictions
On fuel emissions
But, even the worst vehicles
will pass under certain conditions

They pretend to recycle paper
in an effort to save the trees
But, they just collect it
and do what they please

My father’s people
knew how to live in harmony
naturally, pollution free
Without the proper guidance
This planet we call home
Will become a barren wasteland
ruined for all life
to it’s very bone
so many understand
But, only few of us do what we can

And, what of tomorrow
our children
and the world they will borrow
The birds they’ll never see
They will find cement
where there used to be green

If common sense does not prevail
all life on this planet
will certainly fail
The cost is immense
The media intense
and money their only defense

Sky’s that used to be blue
are all to often gray
But, we all knew
this would happen someday
Why, ecologist predicted
it would happen this way
Then again, no-one listens
to what they have to say

Now many birds
who used to fly freely
No longer grace our skies
But, then nothing is the way
it used to be
Everyday another species dies
Replaced by garbage
or some other form of mutation
And still,
Still the ecologist yells in frustration

The end is near
we have reason to fear
That next oil spill
Sure big business
will foot the bill
but what about the future
the future of the ocean
and the aquatic life
that are killed
un-for-told events
set in motion
All due to one spill
So much aquatic life lost
and yet we ignore it
Never realizing
sooner or later
everyone will pay the cost
or at least feel the loss

We cannot let mankind
destroy this planet
Ecologist understand it
A solution has to be found
changes have to be made now
Our future demands it
Our children deserve
More than a world
of stone and granite
They deserve the blue skies
The right to see how an eagle flies
They deserve the whales and the sharks
Deer and the meadowlarks
They deserve the lush green of a rain forest
and more its
not just their right
It’s our duty
to preserve this worlds
natural Beauty. . .
