KHAO PHANSA: 1ST AUGUST 2004-28TH OCTOBER 2004
Invitation to a ceremony to observe the commencement of the Phansa 2004 (BE2547)
The Vassa (Phansa) Period lasts for 3 months, forbidding the Bhikkus from leaving the temple except in cases where there is an urgent appeal from the public to obtain the services of the Bikkhus. For the following 3 months of the rainy season the monks will remain in the monasteries, intensifying their studies, chanting and meditating. This consecration period which is instituted by the Buddha himself for the observance by all Bikkhus is to allow devotees to offer Dana (cooked food) to the Sangha Order. By this
act of offering, the devotees will be blessed by the Bikkhus and merits will also be transferred to the departed ones.
The above ceremony will commence on the 31st July 2004 (Saturday) at 8.00pm by circumbulating the temple thrice.
Like the previous years, Buddhist devotees are encouraged to be Heads of Narkans for each week of the Vassa period to provide Dana to the Sangha. The first Narkan falls on 1st of August (Sunday) and each subsequent Sunday until 28th October 2004. (totaling 13 weeks.)

Offering of daily necessities for each Bikkhu such as Vassa Yellow Robe (Rainy Season Robe), tooth brushes, tooth paste, bathing soap, washing soap, towels, ball pens, exercise books and other requisites can also be given to the Bikkhus during this ceremony.

Special Vassa Candles from Thailand are available for the offering during the Vassa Period. Devotees may donate the candles individually by giving their names to the Resident Monk. Price per candle is RM88.00
