Colour balance
A colour of high intensity needs less area to achieve visual balance with a colour of low intensity. Most colourists agree to the following ratios of colour intensity: Yellow-9, Purple-3, Orange-8, Blue-4, Red-6, Green-6

To simplify your ratios separate your complimentary colours.
Try the 3 different sets of coloured squares: Yellow with Purple, Orange with Blue, Red with Green

I had to display my example using a table rectangular format. If you wish may choose any polygon shape for eg:hexagons.
