JadeLeigh
Hi. I'm Jade. It's nice to meet you. I can't stay long, though. I have to meet my best friend.

What's her name? Her name is Jamie. Jamie Vaughn. Yeah, her name would sound familiar, she's in a popular local band. She IS cool.

Oh gosh, where do I begin? Jamie is a BABE. Guys like, her. A LOT. Drool at the sight of her, really. Shes' about 5 feet 5 inches tall, she has sort of long, dark hair, and really warm brown eyes. And , oh my gosh, her arms are strong. She has sort of a wild streak, being a musician and all. She even has tattoos, an absrtact band design just above both biceps. She says it's easier than trying to find an arm cuff that will fit around her arm without pinching when she plays.

She plays EVERY musical instrument you can think of, but she is most happy pounding away on her drums. I get to run the sound-board for her all-girl rock band, "POWERBOX". It's really cool to watch her lose herself in the music. You can see it all over her face.

Jamie and I have been friends for a few years. We met at work. We both used to unload trucks at our local 'Wal-mart'-type store, third shift, but I quit to become a medical assistant. Jamie still unloads trucks, because it gives her Friday and Saturday nights to play music.

Jamie is the best friend a timid girl like me could ask for. She cheers me on when I take on something new, and her 'pep-talks' are the greatest, but she never bosses me around. Lately, my boyfriend, Josh, has been acting weird. She's the first person to jump in and say, "Josh..she said she needed space.." without actually answering for me. She always waits for my signal, because we are close enough to have that 'unspoken-language' between friends.

I wish she would do that for herself, though. She's dating this really great guy, who is comlpetely goofy for her. He's a musician, too. He's kind of famous. Anyway, every time things get serious, she runs. But I think that has something to do with her brother, Jimmy.

I never met Jimmy, but she's talked about him. He was killed in a car accident about five years ago. So was her mother. They were in the car together, from the way Jamie tells it. Her father is still alive, but her mother's death still affects him deeply.

Jimmy was Jamie's best friend, before he died. He was 10 years older than her, taught her to play, read, write and sing music. They even took their band to California for a while. But then Jimmy died, and Jamie decided to stay with her dad instead of going back. "Without Jimmy," she says, "What's the point?"

Jimmy also gave her some really stupid advice on relationships, but I think it was because he didn't want to see her get hurt, let her leave the band, or lose his best friend. So when it gets down to the wire, she's long gone.

Jamie and her father are also very close. I like Mr. Vaughn. He even calls me some of the pet names he uses for Jamie. He always calls her 'Jameson' when he's teasing her, and the rest of us have sort of picked up on it. She doesn't seem to mind. There are times when her father can't handle the fact that his wife and son are gone, then he drinks. Jamie converted the garage of the house she grew up in, into a really cool studio apartment. She pays her dad a little bit of rent, so she can be there for him, but not actually IN the house. "That way he doesn't FEEL like I'm babysitting. I just want to be there when he and Uncle Mongo get to drinkin', so they don't burn the stinkin' house down." she says.

Jamie always makes me laugh. Her sense of humor is sharp, and she always manages to find what is funny, even in the WORST of situations. You kind of have to do that, when you've lived your whole life in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Its' a great place, but it's not L.A., or New York, you know?

I think I would be a less interesting person, if Jamie wasn't my best friend. She pushes me to do things I would never have thought to try. She always tries to act tough, like nothing fazes her, though. But, sometimes (like after a gig and a few too many beers..) she gets a little mushy. Then, she hugs me, kisses my cheek and says, "I love you Jadeleigh. What would I do without you?" This always makes me smile. She's the only person who runs my first and middle names together like that. I don't even think I'd let anyone else do it.

Shoot! Look at the time...I have to go meet her now. You should come out to the bar sometime and listen to the band play. They really rock, have a HUGE local following, and she'd be really glad to meet you.
Come on out, I'll introduce you. See you later.
