"Jadeleigh is right, boy." Mr. Vaughn spoke up then, placing his hand on Taylor's shoulder. "That girl is as stubborn as her mother ever was. She's a mule. Nothing can keep my Jamie down, not even her brother, who lived with his head in the clouds."
"Damn straight. That girl's head is as hard as a rock and she's got a will of steel." Mongo added. he and his brother in law nodded in the same instant. If Jade had not been so concerned about her friend she would have laughed. "She'll make it. Just for spite." he said.
Taylor wiped his face again with the back of his jacket sleeve. "Did the nurse say anything about how she was?" Tay choked out, looking hopefully at Jamie's father.
"'Fraid not. She's going to check now, she said she'd let us know." he told Taylor, then all looked expectantly at the nurse, who suddenly appeared before them. "The doctor is on his way out." she stated and retreated behind her desk.
When the doctor arrived all breathed a small sigh of relief. Jamie's arm was broken, and her skin was raw at the top of her thigh at her hip, where sliding across the pavement had worn her jeans away, but nothing was bleeding internally. She would be sore and bruised he told them, and he was ordering tests for her head, since that seemed to be the biggest problem. "It looks like she hit it pretty hard, she's actually lucky she had a lot of alcohol in her system. If she'd fought against that crash, or hit her head on anything but that patch of grass, she may not be with us. She's very lucky she didn't hurt anyone else. " he stated, his expression somber. "We're getting her a room upstairs, you can gather her things and take them up. We'll have her up as soon as the CT is done on her head." he told Mr. Vaughn.
Taylor sat heavily back down in his chair and buried his head in his hands once again, praying that Jamie would be all right, that her head was not injured badly, so he could make all this up to her and make her know how sorry he was that he'd pushed her to this. He vowed to himself that he would NOT leave the hospital until she could. He was not walking out of this hospital without Jamie, he would push her out in a wheelchair if he had to, but he would not leave her side.
