Calgary - The city should put the brakes on the Symons Valley development, Ald. John Schmal says, until it gets answers to some transportation questions.
The north-west project, which will provide housing for 40,000 and build shopping centres and roads, has too many loose ends, Schmal argues.
He says the city should wait until there is an agreement between the city and the development industry about increasing lot levies to pay for transportation. That agreement is expected within weeks.
And he's concerned that the federal and provincial governments have yet to put money on the table for a ring road connection. He met with the feds on the issue last week and expects details soon. And the provincial money could be announced in Tuesday's budget.
"All I'm trying to say is our work hasn't been done in the area of transportation," Schmal said.
