| Five communities proposed for city's north CBC Calgary Last Updated Monday, 12 February 2001 13:29:56 EST CALGARY - City Council is looking at whether to approve one of the biggest developments in the city's history. The Symons Valley Community Plan would see five new communities developed along the city's northern boundary. The development would be home to more than 54,000 people. "I absolutely have no concern about development," says Alderman John Schmal. "Development is healthy, but development has to be done right." Residents of communities south of the proposed development are concerned about traffic and how it will affect the environment of the area. Schmal says he want to make sure his questions are answered before he gives his approval to the project. "If those questions are forthcoming, perhaps, we can start moving in the right direction," he says. "But there is an awful lot of information that I don't have at this point." At least six developers are said to be interested in the Symons Valley project. Written by CBC News Online |
