Governments ante up for city infrastructure

WINNIPEG - The federal, provincial and municipal governments have announced funding for three infrastructure projects in Winnipeg.
In all, $165 million has been earmarked for a new rapid transit system, construction of the Kenaston underpass, and upgrades to the city's waste-water treatment system.
There have been discussions surrounding all of these projects for several years. Premier Gary Doer says it's just taken some time to find the money to get started.
"Just like your own household, you can't get everything you need for your own household immediately," he says. "Sometimes you have to delay decisions and priorities until you can afford them. This is a priority."
Funding for the projects will be split evenly, with each level of government kicking in $55 million. There is no word on how much money each project will get.
